It highlights key areas for improvement to make prisons more child-friendly and shares children’s recommendations. Some of the recommendations include: 🔸 Make prison visiting rooms more welcoming, with coloured walls and materials or toys for children 🔸 Allow outdoor activities while children are visiting a parent in prison 🔸 Allow longer and more frequent visits 🔸 Adapt prison environments so they meet the needs of children with neurodivergent conditions coming to see a parent Read more about what the children said 👉 https://lnkd.in/e5N2s-bW

Our justice system is failing people in prison. HM Inspectorate of Prisons' latest report reveals that people in prison are spending far too long locked in cells, with inadequate access to education, training and work. 📉 For women, the surge in substance misuse, self-harm and violence highlights a system in crisis. Curious about the effect of NPM-informed performance budgeting frameworks on public managers and how centralised ‘input’ controls shape the delivery of public service outcomes? Then you'll want to check out:- The inefficiency of centralised control and political short-termism: the case of the Prison Service in England and Wales Sam Warner, David Richards, Diane Coyle, and Martin J. Smith https://buff.ly/3ZK1nIh 🌤️ Early View and Open Access! The authors conducted 152 semi-structured interviews spanning public sector prisons in England and Wales. They uncover how New Public Management has shaped the delivery of performance budgeting and undermined longer-term outcomes in prisons. Their evidence shows that without managerial freedom and financial flexibility at the appropriate level, the delivery of effective public services can be undermined, producing suboptimal outcomes for public money.

Connoisseur of business, a mastery of Project Management and Procurement. Director Procync. Experienced NED. Passionate about improvement and productivity.
8moWe had the prison capacity programme in the late 2000's under a Labour Government. If I recall we had a budget of £1.2bn to build new and extend existing prisons. One of the key strategies was building off site 60 bed accommodation units that were "dropped in" to existing prisons or new space just outside an existing prison. We also built 2 no 300 place prisons using modular (included accommodation, catering, & L & D units. We built these in 6 months, I am assuming this can still be done albeit the supply chain for modular builds may be less than then. My role was intially as interim head of procurement and then as a consultant advisor who set up the MOJ's project delivery system which saved £65m and improved delviery by 400%. Happy to provide advisory services to the MoJ if they need it!!!
