𝐏𝐞𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐜𝐢 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐚𝐯𝐞𝐬 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐇𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐲𝐛𝐞𝐞𝐬! Last week, we were alerted of a honeybee hive in one of our communities. We did our research and called in “Eli’s Honeybees”, a professional hive-management company. Eli was able to locate the hive, safely remove the nest and the honeycomb! Special thanks to Eli for also giving us the delicious Honey! 😋

This post is for anyone who has ever said, "I wish they knew how hard ______________________ really is!" 😉 My daughter Sydney and I removed some of the honey from our hives yesterday. Convincing thousands of honeybees that it's okay to release part of their food storage is a good thing IS NOT easy. (📣 NOTE: We do not remove ALL the honey-we leave them plenty for overwintering). When I hear people talk about how expensive local honey is, I wish I could suit them up (maybe no suit?😆) and let them experience this moment. Or when we have to extract the honey and place in jars. Or storing all the empty racks with honeycomb until next year, making sure insects don't destroy the comb. The list is endless. They simply take the end result for granted. 💡There are skills YOU have developed in the work you do that others probably take for granted as well. They have no idea of the countless hours you have put in or the challenges you have endured to become good at what you do. So... here's your chance to vent... just like I am... ❓What's a skill you use in your job or career that others have no clue how hard you have worked to perform at the level you do? #worklife #leadershipdevelopment

Is it effort if you’re having fun? I spend a few minutes a week feeding my worms. Most of that time is spent in the kitchen scavenging all scraps into a container that’s designated worm food, and chopping it up into smaller pieces. This is my process for composting - 1. Food scraps are collected in a container and chopped into pieces during food prep. 2. Container is frozen overnight 3. I remove the container, let it thaw 4. Dig a hole in the worm farm, add the food and cover it up nicely. 5. Optional: I observe in awe

Food is a powerful tool. It can bring a family together at the end of the day, communicate a culture’s history, or be a symbol of love. In times of crisis however, it becomes an even more powerful tool for healing a community and our partner, World Central Kitchen, knows this better than anyone. We're highlighting their mission and the incredible work they do all over the world in our most recent blog post. Check it out!

For those of you that know me well, you can confirm that: 1. I love clever, FUN, eye-catching marketing, and 2. I'm not a cereal lover (calm down, I eat it but I have to be in the mood). #surreal YOU are an example of why I love marketing! These campaigns (oh yes, there are more... go check them out) check off so many boxes for me - fun, sassy, dry humor, in your face, and bonus point for sliding a swear word in every now and then. It's a reminder that this is marketing - it's supposed to be fun! Some will say, "But Simone, you market hi-tech serious stuff, not cereal. You shouldn't do this!" I get hi-tech is not cereal but why not have some fun? I have had the priviledge of working with some great creatives and leaders that took a chance and let us have this type of fun. You know what? It worked! The ultimate goal is to leave an impression and be remembered, right? If making them laugh doesn't do it, then I don't know what will. Well done, Surreal! BIG FAN!
WINNIE-THE-POOH WOULD (probably) LOVE THIS We’ve made a new cereal. It’s called Honey Crunch. Everyone’s favourite honey-loving, public-domain-based, bear is a massive fan. You can’t prove he’s not. We heard that Sherlock Holmes, Alice in Wonderland and Mr Darcy love our cereal too. Lady Macbeth prefers our competitors. Why not grab a box of Honey Crunch next time you’re on our hundred acre website? P.S. Don’t listen to what that other bear has to say. A bowl of Honey Crunch is WAY better than a marmalade sandwich.

I've worked in multiple food pantries with a diverse collection of volunteers, who often entered my organizations under the assumption that people experiencing hunger do so because of their own choices or failures. Doing this work has given me valuable experience learning how to teach these volunteers to reevaluate their assumptions, and has also showed me the importance of developing a framework to facilitate this growth. Few people change their mind after a few conversations, but can slowly internalize and adopt ideas they are consistently exposed to. Here are some of the concepts I start with on the Who Deserves to Eat blog: https://lnkd.in/gm2QcSDb #whodeservestoeat #endhunger #foodjustice
