You can be prosecuted for shoplifting even if you didn't make it out of the store with the items that weren't paid for. Shoplifting is all about intent to steal and moving that item while having the intent to steal. So, you don't have to make it out of the store with the item to be prosecuted. But, there are defenses. Mulberry England has said there a "clear need to reprioritise and rebuild the business", after its group revenue fell by 19% to £56.1m in the six months to 28 September. New figures from Office for National Statistics has showed a record number of shoplifting offences in the year to June 2024, marking an increase of 29% compared to the previous year. Almost half a million (469,788) shoplifting offences were recorded between July 2023 to June 2024, compared to 365,173 in the previous year. https://hubs.li/Q02VFyQ20
