As I was preparing for my upcoming webinar, I came across this report https://lnkd.in/dhhkyFAz which would have interesting implications for folks who are wondering about "The Career Dilemma: Stay, Switch or Soar?" The report is like a peek into the future, showing us what skills and jobs are going to be hot or cold in the next few years. If I were looking at my own career right now, I'd be thinking, "Am I keeping up with these changes?". The good thing is that, it's not just about knowing the latest tech, it's also about being able to think analytically and solve problems using data. We know that the job market is going to be a bit of a rollercoaster - a lot of jobs will be changing, some will disappear, and some new ones will pop up. The report says about 14% of jobs will be created but 8% will be displaced. This tells me that being flexible and ready to learn new things is a basic skill. Interestingly, while tech skills are becoming critical, the report also says that qualities like being able to think creatively, being adaptable and resilient, and being good at leading and working with others are going to be really important.... "soft skills". • If I was thinking about staying in my current role, I'd be looking at it closely and asking myself, "Is what I'm doing now going to be needed in the future?" If the answer is yes, I'd be making sure I’m keeping my skills up-to-date and learning new things. • If I was thinking about switching, I'd be taking a good look at the areas where jobs are growing. The report mentions things like AI, data, and technology, and also notes how digital transformation will influence new roles. • If I was aiming to soar, I'd be thinking more broadly than just technical skills. The report says that "human skills" like leadership, creativity, and adaptability are becoming more and more important.... I'd try to improve on these kinds of skills and use them to set myself apart. It seems there is also a move toward diverse and inclusive workplaces, which means being able to collaborate with others will be even more critical. Basically, what this report tells me is that we all need to be proactive about our careers, learn new things, and be ready for change.
