This weekend, we came together to UofTHacks to innovate, collaborate, and challenge ourselves—and we’re proud to present The Other Side! ⚖️ Our Mission: Break echo chambers by empowering users with tools to explore diverse, credible perspectives. 💡 Our Creation: We built a website and Chrome extension leveraging AI to: ✅ Analyze webpages for bias and verify information ✅ Facilitate debates with real-time fact-checking ✅ Provide access to peer-reviewed research 🛠️ Hackathon Highlights: Collaboration: We brainstormed, designed, and built a fully functional platform in just 36 hours! Learning: From refining our RAG AI model with Vertex AI to crafting intuitive designs with React, every step pushed us out of our comfort zones. Teamwork: Long hours, late-night debugging, and so many laughs—this is what hackathons are all about! Human AI team collaboration is truly here and it fires up ideation and innovation 2. 🚀 #AIgnite2024: A Rollercoaster of Code, Caffeine, and Crazy Ideas! 💡 💻 Let's be real - when they said "AI Hackathon," I thought it meant " Absolutely Insane Weekend of No Sleep." And boy, did we deliver! Our team, The Full Stack Pack, dove right into the challenge. With 15 teams battling it out and only 7 making it to the finals, the competition was fierce! When we found out that we would be opening the finale, the panic was real. Picture this: four sleep-deprived teammates, fueled by enough coffee to make a barista weep, frantically perfecting our presentation at 3 AM. Our whiteboard looked like a beautiful mess of brilliant chaos! We might not have snagged the trophy, but we absolutely crushed the presentation. Setting the tone for the day? Check. Impressing the judges? Double-check. Proving that sleep is just a suggestion? Triple-check! Toolhouse is built on Toolhouse. That’s right, we use our own product to streamline our own operations. We reduce burn so we can focus on what matters the most. Here’s what we use Toolhouse for: 👩⚖️ Trust and safety: we use Toolhouse to detect platform abuse (such as users using our tools as spam vectors). 📈 Reports and analytics: we automate report creation by tasking Toolhouse to create and run reports and to send them via email to the AI Tamers in Chief (Orlando and myself). ✨Use cases and documentation generation: we ask the Toolhouse Playground to get inspiration by looking at the latest AI trends online and on X, and to create a sample use case when done. There’s never been a better time to run a hackathon. With AI tools like Claude’s artefacts, OpenAI’s custom GPTs, Replit, and even the quality of low-code/no-code software like Retool, non-technical folks can get involved in building prototypes like never before. They can also create AI workflows and tools that could massively help automate the mundane parts of their role. Even if the only thing to come out of it was your team getting more comfortable and skilful with AI, the compounding effects over the next few years would be huge. But that won’t be the only thing to come out of it. In my experience, nothing fosters greater cross-team and cross-department communication, collaboration and understanding than a hackathon. My line on AI is that it can’t replace humanity, but it does force us to focus on what makes us uniquely human. Coming together to build cool stuff that solves real problems, and have fun in the process? Sounds pretty human to me.
