Too many firefighters are impacted by occupational #cancer every year, even though they do everything - they wear their supplied gear and follow strict health and safety protocols. The OPFFA commends the Ontario government for its #Fire Protection Grant initiative, which will allow local departments to purchase specialized washing and drying equipment to properly decontaminate their bunker gear. This is a timely and significant announcement to share with #firefighters and their families. https://lnkd.in/dWDUzpsj Thank you Doug Ford Michael S. Health issues for firefighters, first responders, and diesel mechanics due to exposure to diesel exhaust fumes is a real issue that requires real action. Prolonged exposure to these fumes can lead to serious respiratory problems, cardiovascular diseases, and even increased cancer risks. It's essential for employers and organizations in these fields to prioritize the health and safety of their workers by implementing proactive measures. Let’s do the right thing without government regulation. By collaborating as a community, we can create a safer working environment for those who put their lives on the line every day. If you're interested in discussing strategies please reach out to me at fburke@csairenvironmental.com. Together, we can make a difference!
January is Fire Fighter Cancer Awareness Month designated by the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF). Diesel exhaust is considered a Group 1 carcinogen by global health and safety organizations including National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, U.S. Department of Labor- OSHA and the World Health Organization. Reduce your cancer risk in the station by relying on an effective exhaust extraction system designed for your station's exact needs. Fire & EMS Personnel are you prepared to properly treat Smoke Inhalation Patients? Some data for you to consider. From: https://lnkd.in/esgGQBTB There were 1669 fire victims who were rescued from a structure fire and were in cardiac arrest where CPR was performed. 224 were administered the Cyanokit over an approximately 15-year period. Of the 224, 83, or 37% survived. This data indicates, 1. Not enough victims, including firefighters, are receiving the Cyanokit. 2. Of those administered the Cyanokit, 37% is a high resuscitation rate. More Fire Departments and EMS agencies should emphasize having the Cyanokit available for victims of possible smoke Inhalation.

The dangerous work of firefighters often brings them into contact with toxic chemicals from burning materials and firefighting foams. Firefighter occupational cancer is the leading cause of line-of-duty deaths in the fire service. Emergency Decon Solutions wants to spread the word that January is Firefighter Cancer Awareness Month. To my fellow emergency responders: What are you doing now to reduce your risk? #FirefighterCancer #FFCancerMonth #FightFFCancer #FirefighterCancerAwarenessMonth #EmergencyResponse #ReduceTheRisk

More than half of all firefighter deaths are caused by overexertion and stress. Not flames. Not collapsing buildings. Overexertion and stress. And, it's exactly why NFPA 1582 standards were created - to regularly screen those who selflessly serve their community for any potential health issues. Detect any problems in the early stages, and keep your team healthy in the long run. And, it's why regular medical screenings and physical exams are so critical to keep your team safe. Let us bring the clinic right to your station, or where ever is most convenient for you, and see how easy protecting your team can be. Learn more about NFPA 1582 physicals, or schedule exams for your team, right here: https://lnkd.in/euCc83mf -- #firefighters #firefighting #healthscreenings #firechief #firstresponders

In response to concerns about the economic feasibility of its proposed emergency response rule, OSHA is considering the exclusion of volunteer emergency response organizations. This potential revision follows feedback from over 4,100 comments, including from volunteer responders and fire chiefs, on how the new standard might impact them. The proposed rule would expand protections beyond firefighting to include emergency medical services, search and rescue, and update equipment specifications and safety practices. Thank you, Mr. Jean Boulet, for your commitment to recognizing occupational cancers in the firefighting profession. The risks we face as firefighters go far beyond fires. Repeated exposure to toxic substances, whether on the intervention sites or through the equipment we use, has led to disproportionately high cancer rates among firefighters. Initiatives to expand the list of recognized cancers are essential for us to receive the protection and support we need. It’s crucial to continue educating the public and policymakers on the reality of toxic risks that we encounter every day, even after an intervention. Efforts to eliminate exposure, reduce contamination, promote early disease screening, and invest in research funds to mitigate the impact of toxic substances are all essential steps toward advancing safety in our field. Thank you to everyone who supports this movement for greater recognition of our occupational hazards, and thank you, Mr. Boulet, for your concrete actions in our journey toward better protection for firefighters—and, ultimately, a hopeful reduction in work-related illness fatalities. #Firefighters #FirefighterHealth #WorkerProtection #OccupationalRecognition #Safety

Why Prop P? The last bond issue for the Wentzville Fire Protection District was in 2014. Since then, the population of Wentzville alone has grown by 46%, and emergency calls have increased by 52%. Wentzville firefighter/paramedics are often first on scene for medical calls, providing advanced life support until an ambulance arrives. Our trucks and gear need updates in order to keep up.
