On December 2, Tecnológico de Monterrey opened their Expedition FEMSA Building, marking a significant step in the development of Monterrey Innovation District. This cutting-edge facility is the first of many that will shape an ecosystem where researchers and companies collaborate to drive innovation.   This is why GIID is organizing the inaugural Global Summit at Monterrey Innovation District on 9-11 April 2025 in Monterrey, Mexico.   Unlike many districts, Tec de Monterrey and its partners have spent years strengthening a larger area—known as distritotec—where residents, community centers, health facilities and other actors live and work. Their long-term ambition is to seamlessly connect the emerging district with this larger community, ensuring that people from diverse backgrounds benefit from the economic and innovation growth.    This ambitious agenda will take center stage at the inaugural GIID Global Summit in Monterrey. The second Transnational Partner Meeting for DIGIFABS was held in Amsterdam recently. We are pleased to introduce EffektGIO, a new project initiated by the Grants and Innovation Office in Högskolan Väst, aimed at improving our support in attracting external research and innovation funding. EffektGIO adopts a mixed methods design and is guided by the principles of lateral governance. Our objective is to contribute to a more inclusive academia by incorporating Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) principles into our strategy. Additionally, we aspire to enhance Högskolan Väst's success in securing external research funding amidst the rapidly evolving research funding landscape. Today, we convened our inaugural reference group, and we extend our gratitude to Fredrik Sunnemark, Kristina Areskoug Josefsson, Maria Asuncion Valiente Bermejo, Anna Karin Olsson, Ivan Andrés Castillo, and Linnea Karlsson for their valuable insights and contributions. The University of Vaasa’s team won the EUNICE Imagine Innovation Cup 2024! 🏆✨   Our Doctoral Researchers, Eldrige de Melo, Mikko Punnala, and Mahmoud Elsanhoury, wowed the judges with their innovative project, enhancing navigation accuracy.   – Our aim is to develop a system that provides seamless navigation anytime and anywhere. We want to increase the resilience of the GNSS signals as they are critical to our daily lives, from ordering taxis and food delivery to using mobile maps and finance systems. GNSS signal jamming and spoofing has been increasing in the last few years. Our innovation is based on a research conducted at the University of Vaasa by Mahmoud Elsanhoury, says Eldrige de Melo.   – It was a great honour to be able to represent the university in this competition with our team. Winning the competition served as additional motivation that we have a good business idea that should be developed further and brought into the market.   The EUNICE Imagine Innovation Cup is a business competition where students from EUNICE European University partners present their entrepreneurial ideas. The projects were judged on the basis of their sustainability, feasibility, and novelty of the idea.
