Our esteemed authors Dr. Ananth Vedururu Srinivas and 𝐃. 𝐊. 𝐊. 𝐕𝐚𝐦𝐬𝐢 study the controllability aspects to drive the system to the desired state in minimum (finite) time to make the outcomes practically more viable. The authors consider an additional food provided prey–predator system involving Holling type III functional response and study its controllability based on the quality of additional food, keeping the quantity fixed. Please consider signing the following electronic petition to the Canadian House of Commons, "Canadians Need Legally Enforced Drinking Water Regulations" e-5164 (Health) -- https://lnkd.in/gi5Pi-AH Petition to the Government of Canada Whereas: -Canada is one of only two countries in the developed world that do not have national drinking water regulations; -Canada annually reports over 400,000 episodes of enteric disease deemed to be related to drinking water; -The responsibility for providing safe drinking water in Canada is divided among federal, provincial, municipal, and territorial governments, with varying guidelines or standards; -The most critical component of producing safe drinking water is protecting the quality of source waters, and First Nations, Inuit, Métis, and rural Canadians must be empowered to protect their source waters; -First Nations people reject Bill C-61, as it gives them liability instead of responsibility for their water; -In 2010, Canada supported United Nations General Assembly Resolution 64/292 in recognizing that clean drinking water and sanitation are the basis of all human rights; and -The World Health Organization produces international guidelines on water quality and human health that serve as the basis for setting regulations and standards worldwide. We, the undersigned, residents of Canada, call upon the Minister of Health to respect the rights of First Nations, Inuit, Métis, and all people living in Canada to safe drinking water and – in full partnership with First Nations, Métis, Inuit, provincial, municipal, and territorial governments – to establish National Drinking Water Regulations that meet or exceed the guidelines established by the World Health Organization. The petition will be closed for signature on December 7, 2024 at 11:49 a.m.

Strategic Dialogue on the Future of EU Agriculture delivers its final report to President von der Leyen. #HealthyAgriculture #CAPreform #EUFoodSystems #healthydiets The report entitled “A shared prospect for farming and food in Europe”, presents an assessment of challenges and opportunities, followed by a set of recommendations. These suggestions will guide the work of the European Commission when shaping its Vision for Agriculture and Food, to be delivered in the first 100 days of President von der Leyen's second mandate. https://lnkd.in/eA_5XmGQ The report roots in several important guiding principles, such as: ⚠ Policy measures must be coherent and create powerful enabling environments based on fruitful synergies ⚠ Economic, environmental, and social sustainability can reinforce each other ⚠ Markets should drive sustainability and value creation across the chain and better internalize externalities ⚠ The shift towards balanced diets that are healthier and more sustainable is essential for a successful transition ⚠ Attractive rural areas are of crucial importance for food security, the future viability of society, and liberal democracy. Out of 14 recommendations put forward, let me stop by just one: "Making the healthy and sustainable choice the easy one", calling on the European Commission and Member States to: 💡 adopt demand-side policies, which address agri-food systems as a whole, to create enabling food environments where balanced, less resource intensive, healthy diets are available, accessible, affordable, and attractive. 💡 conduct a full review of EU food labelling legislation, as well as publish a report evaluating the current measures relating to the marketing to children. 💡 enable fiscal tools in the form of tax reduction for consumers to foster coherent price signals. 💡 foresee measures to safeguard food affordability for lower income consumer segments through social and fiscal policies. 💡 achieve a more upgraded framework for public procurement on sustainable food and enable food banks and other non-profit organizations to maximise their role.

I am excited to share the first publication in the context of my PhD! Last week our paper 'Water Value Ambivalence: A Qualitative Exploration of the Multitude of Water Values' was published in 'Water'. This paper is based on a project called 'WaterValue' (in collaboration with De Watergroep and KWR Water Research Institute) in which we investigated the perceived value of tap water by Flemish domestic drinking water customers. In the paper, we adopted a sociological lens to examine the significance of water, delving into citizens’ experiences and perceptions regarding their everyday water usage. We found that although the price of tap water is a concern for people, the actual value of water extends well beyond its price. In their everyday lives, citizens use water not so much for the sake of water itself, but in various household water practices (e.g., showering) associated with certain values: hygiene, health, relaxation, warmth, and so on. Our study also directs attention towards the tensions people may experience between the various values they attach to tap water and the sense of responsibility to use it prudently. Thanks to Robbe Geerts, Frédéric Vandermoere and Stijn Brouwer for the supervision and collaboration. The full paper can be read here: https://lnkd.in/gUwP5B7r
