In 2007, the Katowice Fair was transformed into the KATOWICE International Mining, Energy and Metallurgy Fair. The event became a place where local industrial traditions met global innovations, and a new face of Polish industry was painted. Companies from 17 countries showed that Silesia is ready for the exchange of ideas and technologies on a global scale by presenting state-of-the-art machinery and innovations in the power industry or metallurgy. Connecting East and West In 2007, the international nature of the show was emphasized with a focus on cross-border cooperation, such as the presence of a German delegation from Saxony-Anhalt or Czech entrepreneurs. More than 20,000 visitors had the opportunity not only to admire innovations, but also to attend conferences that shed light on the latest industry trends. The 2007 edition not only celebrated achievements, but also focused on the future, showing how global trends can serve local development. 🎉Congratulations 🎉 to Dr. Pilot Mugebe, PhD, MMEng, MBA, BSc (Min.Eng) on successfully completing his #PhD by a thesis titled: 💠Impact of Mining Technological Innovations on Iron Ore Share Prices💠 Dr Mugebe’s research investigates the impact of #technologicalinnovation on #shareprice 📈. The research traced the history of #mining technological innovation development from the introduction of mechanisation in the 18thC. This is investigated chronologically through the period of automation and remote-control systems, up to the present age of semi-autonomous and autonomous systems. It is discovered that work on the technological innovation impact on stock price, defined by an empirical relationship is absent. The literature review conducted shows that mining technological innovation impact is explored only to as far as improving productivity, reducing costs, and improving safety. This confirms the existence of a gap that needs to be filled by further research. The aim of this research, therefore, is to develop a share price #predictivemodel derived from an empirical relationship based on the impact of mining technological innovation on share price. Overall, the research proves that the technologically driven factors are quantifiable and play a vital role in building a share price prediction model. Some methodological limitations have been identified, setting the scope for further work to address the accuracy shortfalls in the results. Our former student Bernardo Filizzola receives a scholarship of SEK 25,000 for the best degree project regarding mining operations and iron production from Björn Wahlström's fund. Bernardo Filizzola's thesis "𝘐𝘯𝘷𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘨𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘰𝘧 𝘪𝘯𝘧𝘭𝘶𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘢𝘭 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘹𝘵𝘴 𝘰𝘯 𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨-𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘯𝘵 𝘴𝘦𝘪𝘴𝘮𝘪𝘤𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘢𝘵 𝘒𝘪𝘪𝘳𝘶𝘯𝘢𝘷𝘢𝘢𝘳𝘢 𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘦" examined the factors that trigger seismic activity in the Kiirunavaara mine and also proposed ways to reduce the seismic risk, which are important conclusions that LKAB has learnt. I am excited to announce the publication of our new paper titled "Solvometallurgical Properties of Choline Chloride-Based Deep Eutectic Solvents for Copper Extraction from Chalcopyrite: Optimization and Analysis" in the journal of Mining. Our research delves into the innovative use of choline chloride-based deep eutectic solvents (DES) for copper extraction from chalcopyrite concentrate. Through rigorous experimentation and response surface methodology (RSM), we've optimized the extraction process. This work highlights the potential of DES for sustainable metal extraction, emphasizing their efficiency and environmental friendliness. We also explored the kinetics of the dissolution process, the mineralogical changes in chalcopyrite, and the chemical interactions involved. Rare Earth Elements are, in fact, not rare, but they are of extremely low abundances on the planet, which are notoriously challenging to enrich and accumulate as economically valuable masses as well as to sustainable mining and processing.
