Fabulous training in Orange to support adults following natural disaster and other experiences of change and loss.
At our recent adult program training we met professionals in Orange, working in community, with such a depth of experience and knowledge, Perfectly summed up by one participant in their feedback: 'Loved your style, engaging, laid back, knowledgeable, realised the expertise in the room and met participants where they are at.' I’d like some of your expert help, feedback and advice please… It has come to my attention that more Restorative Justice (RJ) training is needed - especially in schools - to ensure it is conducted most effectively. I get to hear of loads of cases that SHOULD be resolved, or at least addressed using RJ. You might know that RJ is a terrific tool to bring together the harmed and the harmer - in a SAFE environment- in order to take responsibility for actions and find a positive way forward. However, what’s even worse are the cases I get to hear about that are being facilitated by unqualified people, oftentimes making the situation worse. So, do you think any school staff would attend a 2 day RJ course if it was held in the summer holidays? …two day term time is understandably impossible, but this brilliant tool, which MUST be administered by qualified practitioners, really should be embedded in every school. If not holiday time training, then how best can it be done? I will be very glad of your thoughts…

Special Constables ….. The proclamation of the Community Safety and Policing Act and its regulations takes a reformed approach to the Special Constable profession. This includes the appointment process, defined classifications (items), authorized police powers, a code of conduct, and the standardization of training and testing across the types of classifications. Over the past several months, the Ontario Police College formed a team of curriculum designers, evaluation designers, researchers, and subject matter experts to create the first ever mandated training program which includes course training standards, lesson plans, and standardized testing for special constables across the province based on their classification. Through working with stakeholders from various special constable employers, reviewing industry best practices, and building from the Basic Constable Program, the team created over 65 lesson plans, developed course training standards for each classification identified, and established academic and practical testing requirements. This project served to standardize and enhance training for special constables, our partners in public safety across the province. Big thanks go to Mariano Bennincasa and Jay Lawrence for leading this project and raising the industry standards for Special Constables in Ontario.

How can we ensure that life-saving protocols don’t just stay in training, but become part of daily practice? 🚑 Patient falls are a critical issue in healthcare, impacting both safety and costs. New nurses, in particular, face challenges in implementing fall prevention protocols due to limited resources and training gaps. To bridge this gap, I developed a clear, user-friendly job aid for the post-fall protocol, designed to complement a scenario-based eLearning module. Here’s how this integrated approach is making a difference: 🔹 Focused Design for Easy Reference: This job aid, posted in a highly visible area, provides new nurses with quick, accessible guidance exactly when they need it. 🔹 Enhancing Practical Learning: By combining eLearning with real-time resources, new nurses feel empowered to apply their training confidently, improving both patient safety and protocol adherence. Supporting hands-on application with well-designed job aids is essential for effective healthcare training—ensuring readiness for both staff and positive patient outcomes. 📂 Explore more of my work here: https://lnkd.in/ei2vu9w2 What role do you think on-the-job resources play in training? 💬
