Spring festival #springfestival The **Spring Festival**, or **Chinese New Year**, is the most important holiday in China, marking the lunar new year. Celebrations include family reunions, New Year’s Eve feasts, giving red envelopes, fireworks, and dragon dances. It lasts from New Year’s Eve to the Lantern Festival on the 15th day of the lunar calendar. In the U.S., the Spring Festival is increasingly recognized. Cities like New York and San Francisco host parades and events, offering non-Chinese Americans a glimpse into Chinese culture. Traditional foods, such as dumplings, spring rolls, and sticky rice cakes, are a highlight and a way for Americans to engage with the celebration. Many Americans compare the Spring Festival to **Christmas** or **Thanksgiving**, seeing it as a time for family gatherings and gift-giving. Brands like Apple and Nike have embraced the holiday, raising awareness through special promotions. While curiosity and appreciation for the festival grow, some misunderstand it as just “Lunar New Year.” Sharing its deeper cultural significance—like family values and traditional foods—helps promote understanding. The Spring Festival is more than a holiday; it’s a bridge for cultural exchange and connection.

Of Forgiveness, Community Gatherings, and Celebrations: Their Relevance to the Corporate World Last weekend, we concluded the 8-day Jain festival Paryushan, and commenced the 10-day festivals of Ganesh Chaturthi and Onam, marking seasons of forgiveness, community, and celebration. Paryushan doesn’t have a greeting like "Happy Paryushan." Instead, we say "Michchami Dukkadam," seeking forgiveness for any hurt caused in the past year. The festival has elements of full or partial fasting and community bonding. Similarly, Ganesh Chaturthi and Onam foster unity and gratitude. These festivals highlight the core values that are equally significant for personal life as well as corporate world. In our fast-paced, often virtual work environments, the corporate 'community / team' gatherings hold transformative potential. Forgiveness is not about others but about clearing your own mental space, letting go of grudges that can poison professional relationships. Forgive, but don't forget. Remember past grievances to shape healthier interactions moving forward (and not to get back at them). Community gatherings like those during Ganesh Chaturthi and Onam can reignite our sense of connection, which has been diluted in the era of remote work. Organizations advocating in-person interactions understand that physical presence fosters a team spirit that virtual meetings cannot replicate. In the spirit of these festivals, bring forgiveness and team interactions into our professional work lives, not just for peace of mind but for effective and joyful collaborations. Double Ninth Festival The Double Ninth Festival is a festival for respecting the elderly, comparable to China's four major traditional festivals: Spring Festival, Qingming Festival, Dragon Boat Festival and Mid-Autumn Festival. But the Double Ninth Festival seems to be ignored by many people, just like we are always busy working hard, but always ignore the expectations of our parents. So I suggest today, we can do the following. 1. Communicate more with family. Parents, brothers or sisters. Because The most luxurious happiness is hidden in boring words！ 2. The life is too short, Don't leave any regrets！ My parents are the start of my life and where I will return to our old age. 3. Teach parents to play on mobile phones. Don't let them be left behind by the period. 4. Share joy, happiness, and success with them. Cherish the present, not just today, not just a phone call, a greeting. But share every bit of life!

💙 Feeling the post-festival blues today. 💙 After being surrounded by amazing people day and night, coming home alone is tough. I think it's a mix of genuine "event comedown" and sheer exhaustion. I was buzzing the day after I got back from Secret Garden Party, but it's all catching up with me three days in. I need some dopamine to keep me on track or at least not feel like this will last forever. Here’s how I’m taking care of myself today: Practising Self-Compassion: 📚 Working through Kristen Neff's book Fierce Self-Compassion, I'm focusing on my needs, on what is not broken. Not trying to problem solve, just letting myself process everything that happened. Attendee safety is a huge responsibility, and we need to let ourselves feel it. Remember, it’s okay to feel this way. Reassuring Myself: 🌟 This moment shall pass. Thanks, Brené Brown, for teaching me it’s okay to be vulnerable and human. Walking with Roo: 🐾 It doesn’t fix everything, but it soothes my soul and helps move those feelings through my body. Writing: 📝 Pouring my thoughts and emotions onto paper. Brené Brown reminds me that owning my story is powerful. Post-Event Admin: 📋 Tackling invoices, feedback, and brainstorming for the next event. It’s a great way to transition from the high-energy event mode and keeps me connected to our success. Future Planning: 💡 Using my energy to think about the future. Can I turn these insights into a business? Reflecting on this helps channel my post-event feelings into tangible plans. Drinking Tea: 🍵 Sipping tea from the mug I use when I just need to take stock. It’s a small ritual that brings comfort and clarity. Practicing self-compassion and embracing vulnerability is key. Giving myself the grace to feel and process these blues while setting the stage for future growth. 💪✨ I'm pulling together my festival pics: 📸 I'll also have a few printed and add them to my portfolio. This helps me recapture the energy of the event. Today may be just another day in your venue, just another event on your schedule, but that’s only your perspective. I remember going to my first concert, to my first playoff game, and to many other “first times” at a nearby venue. It was exhilarating, I had waited months, I couldn’t wait! Today, after 30+ years in the Live Event Industry, I appreciate the fact that people are still experiencing their “firsts” in our venues every day. Our job, is to make the most of those experiences and memories for people. 1. Today, someone is heading to their first concert. We want them to come to many more, help make their experience great. It is overwhelming, be kind to that kid asking day 1 questions. It may very well be their day 1. You had one once too. 2. Someone is getting married in one of our venues today. They have dreamed of today their entire lives, and they chose to host the day in our venue. That’s quite a responsibility, give it your best. Few events we host will have memories that last as long. 3. Someone is going to have a bad day at one of our events. Be compassionate, it’s not always their fault. Kindness in difficulty makes for a long-lasting memory. 4. Today is a new employee’s first day. They can be intimidated by what you find to be routine. Be patient, remember how you felt on you day 1. 5. Someone on your team is dealing with something stressful that they haven’t told anyone about. Listen and be understanding if/when they decide to open up about it. It’s not “drama”, it’s their life, and it isn’t easy sometimes. 6. 99% of our guests will have a great time today. Focus on the 1%. 7. Guests planned for today, and saved up money to attend, it’s a big deal. Help them feel like it was worth it, we want them back again. 8. You may be asked the same question 100 times today. The 100th person who asks should get the same pleasant response, it is their first time. 9. Smile. Say Thank You. Be genuine. 10. Artists and athletes are not robots. They get nervous, they feel pressure, they make mistakes, they sometimes fail. Autumn is the best season for outdoor activities. The sky is clear and the air is fresh. Many people choose to go out, climb mountains, and enjoy the scenery. The Double Ninth Festival has a custom of admiring chrysanthemums since ancient times, so the Double Ninth Festival is also called the Chrysanthemum Festival, and chrysanthemums symbolize longevity, which is very consistent with the blessing of the elderly. In short, in China, the Double Ninth Festival is a very important festival in the family. On November 11, 2024 at 09:30, as part of the #CIDOC2024 conference, the ICOM Working Group on Decolonisation and CIDOC - International Committee for Documentation are hosting a free workshop focused on advancing best practices in using documentation to support the preservation of cultural heritage collections. We're bringing together experts and professionals to discuss innovative strategies for inclusive and effective cultural heritage documentation. What can you expect?   Our guest speakers will dive deep into the discussion of ‘decolonising’ museum collection documentation, addressing historical biases, and highlighting the importance of bringing multiple perspectives into the conversation. We'll discuss how to develop more inclusive collection management systems that respect the cultures and histories they represent. Practical Sessions *Object Biography: Participants will reconstruct the history of a cultural heritage object and identify different meanings, values, and relationships it had in the past and today. The first round of the workshop therefore consists of a mapping exercise to identify stakeholders involved in these knowledge processes and how this influences, and relates to, the documentation of cultural heritage in museum collections. *Digital Participation: Using free digital repository technologies (Tainacan) and the Mastodon social network, participants will take on the role of a museum technician, depositing a digital object, documenting it, and inviting community contributions in real-time.
