Your top performing quant wants be a digital nomad while trekking in Southeast Asia. You have an executive who must relocate to Colombia to oversee the construction of a new plant. Your ace bookkeeper works remotely but is moving to Japan with his wife who is in the U.S. Navy and will be stationed there. What visas are necessary for your employees to work globally? Does having an employee elsewhere mean you have to pay into another country’s social security? Does a single employee in another country create a tax nexus for your company? Do you need to have worker’s comp coverage for a worker abroad? What are the cybersecurity implications of your globally mobile workforce? That’s what we’re here for, give a call—international employment is our thing!

What do you do if you work at the Institut für Windenergiesysteme (LUH) and you want to travel to a scientific wind energy conference such as Torque 2024? Right, you travel by train. So we do 😎. We is Felix Prigge, Basem Rajjoub and A.Wasay Khan. Looking forward to arrive in Florence tomorrow morning. However, there is room for improvements at railway companies to make the decision to travel by train easier, as literally NOTHING worked out as originally planned: - Local train from home to the office in the morning cancelled, took the next one 30 min later. Doable. - Train from Hanover to Munich cancelled, without a message, looked like train did not exist, even in the app. Bad communication. Took the next train more than 1 hour later. Not doable without planning tons of time for changing the train - which we fortunately did. However, less time for a fine Bavarian dinner… Not so nice, but still somewhat ok. - Nightjet from Munich to Florence: Couchette replaced by a seat wagon. Curious how comfortable and relaxing the journey is going to be. Will potentially report on that tomorrow. However, that is unreasonable. I may prepare with some Bavarian beer for the night. The lesson learned is - again, as last year: Plan enough time for changing trains and take the time of an international business travel by train as an adventure and an invaluable team building event, which it basically is. Anyways, please, Deutsche Bahn and ÖBB-Personenverkehr AG, improve your services. I fear this is not the way we can convince people to change from cars and planes to trains.
Let the journey begin! See you in sunny Firenze at the #Torque 2024 conference in two days. #sustainabletravel

The Importance of Piazza in Italian Culture Yesterday, I had the pleasure of discussing the significance of piazza in Italy with my Italian for Fun students. As we explored the role of piazza in Italian culture, I was struck by the importance of these public spaces in fostering social connections, cultural exchange, and economic activity. From Piazza Navona in Rome, which has evolved from a ancient Roman stadium to a vibrant public square, to Piazza del Campo in Siena, which hosts the iconic Palio di Siena, piazza are the heart and soul of Italian cities. In modern urban planning, the concept of piazza is often overlooked, with streets and buildings taking precedence. However, in Italy and Europe, piazza remain a vital part of the urban landscape, serving as hubs for community activity, cultural events, and economic exchange. Piazza are where people come together to socialize, conduct business, and celebrate special occasions. Have you ever had the chance to visit a picturesque Italian piazza? Let me know in the comments 😀 #Piazza #ItalianCulture #UrbanPlanning #Italianlanguage #CommunityBuilding #PublicSpace #Italiancoach #travelinginitaly
