With the acquisition of RATP Dev Transit London today, FirstGroup plc is looking increasingly dominant in the UK public transport market. I do hope Government and the Competition Authorities are keeping a close eye on this.
As with other sectors, such as house building and telecoms, fewer players in the market result in oligopolies and prevent market entrance.
The new Labour Government must not lapse into analysis paralysis whilst problems root. Lots of evidence that Starmer/Reeves are running a technocracy. Government has to lead with real world policy and action.
As we enter 2025, enjoy seamless high-speed mobile coverage across the entire Elizabeth line, including all tunnels! This means 4G and 5G connectivity for passengers, whether you're commuting or exploring London. Our partnership with Transport for London brings this enhanced travel experience to life, connecting Londoners to the places that matter.

🌟 Shaping the Future of London Transport 🚍🚇
Today, Kerv Digital’s Client Services Director, Katherine Mullard, attended an inspiring roundtable at the London Transport Museum, led by Andy Lord, Commissioner of Transport for London (TfL).
With the ever-changing demands on public transport, it was fascinating to hear about TfL’s achievements, challenges, and priorities as they shape the future of travel for nearly 9 million Londoners. Key themes included:
📈 Post-COVID Recovery
TfL is adapting to new travel patterns while growing ridership, ensuring the system supports Londoners’ evolving needs.
🏗️ Transport as an Economic Driver
Investment in resilient infrastructure is enabling job growth, housing development, and a stronger UK economy, making transport essential for national progress.

Fantastic to be at the London Transport Museum for a really interesting session with Andy Lord and Transport for London today!
My key takeaways were:
1. The scale of TfL's operations is enormous – with an average of 11.5 million passenger journeys made everyday, the programme of work ahead is super critical to London and needs to consider safety, customer experience and efficiency in every aspect.
2. The role that we, as suppliers and the private sector can play, presenting the art of the possible and sharing successes from other countries or from organisations with similar challenges.
3. It was particularly compelling hearing the impact that modernising the transport system in London, and across the UK, can have at a local and national level.
Kerv Digital is committed to bringing smarter technology and human-first digital public services to all parts of the UK. Making sure people can use high quality public transport is good for society, business and the environment, so do get in touch with us to discuss how digital transformation can improve that experience.

Wellington Airport is gearing up for significant growth, assisted by a strategic partnership with Airbiz. By developing a comprehensive Master Plan, Terminal Development Plan, and Apron Plan, our team is helping WLG unlock its potential to double its annual capacity from 6 million to 12 million passengers.
Airbiz created a long-term apron development pathway for WLG that will increase international, domestic and regional aircraft parking. It will relocate international operations to a new location in the south of the airport, enabling future expansion and optimising operational efficiency.
Our team then prepared a reference apron concept design for the first stage of apron development at 8 million annual passengers. Our phased approach to apron development ensured that aircraft parking capacity was sufficient to meet expected demand, headroom could be provided, and operations were not unduly constrained during development.
The project is now in the concept design phase, with development expected to begin in 2025.
Anyone who has flown into New York recently cannot have failed to notice the work that has been going on to transform the city's airports.
Whether it's the huge construction activity taking over JFK, or the shining new facilities at LaGuardia, or the Consolidated Rent-A-Car facility at Newark, there are plenty of examples of how P3 is being used to completely overhaul these destinations.
So what lessons can be learned for other airport schemes around the country? Arthur Schurr takes a look
