Since the beginning of time, humans have yearned to build COMMUNITY. In this episode of I HAVE SOMETHING TO SAY, Priscilla Guasso, Founder of Latinas Rising Up In HR | Latinas Avanzando en Recursos Humanos, and CEO of Manifesting Leadership Group, discusses with hosts Chris Majocha and Samí Haiman-Marrero the importance of building genuine connections and creating community rather than just networking. As the author of “Commünity” a fantastic little book/workbook available on Amazon, Priscilla shares her personal experiences of building community and the impact it has had on her life. She also highlights the need for self-reflection and being intentional about the people we surround ourselves with. This book should be required reading for everyone age 12+. The conversation explores the importance of building a community and the different roles that people play within our community. Priscilla believes that community can be built with anyone as long as there is mutual understanding and a willingness to open up and communicate with the end goal of connecting more deeply with people. She emphasizes the value of finding common ground and aligning values with others as we go about doing our business. Although open communication and honest conversations are sometimes hard to do, they are necessary to maintain strong relationships. Priscilla, Chris, and Samí share personal experiences and insights on how to manage expanding communities, ensuring that existing members don't feel displaced. They also discuss the power of letting others help you and the impact of community on personal growth and fulfillment. As a new mom, Priscilla discusses how now she’s leaning in on finding her mommy community and on accepting the support of people who care about her (both in her professional and personal communities) while she navigates balancing motherhood with business ownership. Some key takeaways from this insightful conversation are: - Different people play different roles in your community, such as the creative brainstormer, dreamer, challenger, thinker, motivator, decision maker, mentor, listener, connector, strategist, coach, advisor, and sponsor. Identify them and keep them close! - It's important to have open and honest conversations with friends and family about your capacity and needs, especially during times of expansion, change or strife. - Letting others help and being vulnerable enough to ask for help is a gift and strengthens relationships. - Relationships and communities evolve over time. It’s OK to let go of a relationship that’s not working as it should. - Being intentional about the quality of relationships in your community is more important than the quantity. Listen in for tips on how to build a community you can trust, rely on, and grow with. “Life-ing” is not meant to be done alone. #Urbander #UdoU #IHAVESOMETHINGTOSAY #podcast #LatinasInHR #TogetherWeRise #AvanzandoJuntas #HR https://lnkd.in/e3qVuFsF

Lessons From the J. Peterman Guide to The Extraordinary Life.... In this 30-minute Enterprise Engagement Alliance YouTube Show with John O’Hurley, the stage actor, game show and National Dog show host, ballroom dancer who is probably best known worldwide as J. Peterman in Seinfeld, shares the essence of what he has learned across all these experiences. This new Meaningful Meetings, Lessons Learned show is co-hosted with Jaki Baskow of Baskow Talent and the Las Vegas Speakers Bureau, who is lining up great talent for this show that focuses specifically on the lessons learned by accomplished people in all walks of life. Leading an extraordinary life is not about power or money, O'Hurley tells us. It boils down to three things: 1) imagination, opening your mind to be ever receptive to new ideas; 2) contemplation, thinking carefully about each move and striving for common sense; and 3) appreciation, understanding the value each person brings to the table, respectful that we all have flaws. Why do so many Seinfeld episodes focus on absurd business situations? we asked. Because sadly so many of the episodes ring true, O’Hurley says. In fact, the J. Peterman character is largely based on his boss at his first job after college, when he had temporarily given up his acting aspirations to go into business for fear he would be broke otherwise. What’s often missing in business, he says, is a lack not only of imagination, contemplation, and appreciation, but common sense. The amount of waste we know exists in government doesn’t stop there, he says. There’s plenty of it in business. Man, did this podcast hit so right! Has anyone heard of the 'four freedoms' at work? Consider these areas that contribute to an inclusive and safe workplace: 1. freedom to be- to have authenticity in your interactions with people, to express yourself, to look how you want to look and be respected all the same 2. freedom to become our best selves- to better yourself, to level-up, to develop personally and professionally and have others enjoy seeing that 3. freedom to fade- workplace flexibility arrangements, to step back when overwhelmed, things that allow team members to craft the way that they work and focus on promotable/consquential tasks 4. freedom to fail- team members should be allowed to fail, as it's human nature and we can learn from lessons, which catapult #2. My favorite is freedom to fade. I have had stellar leaders throughout my career that have created a space where I feel comfortable leaning into my strengths, but this can only happen if there are times where you are given a break to be human. Burnout and exhaustion happen to everyone and it increases in seasons throughout life. 2023 was my biggest season of needing to step back in the workplace in order to safely bring my first child into the world. I had the conversation that I was tired and needed to focus on business as usual, decreasing extra passion projects I was involved in. I am forever grateful to have had this support, flexibility and grace, knowing I could step-up to my normal go-getter mentality when the time was right. Thanks Jennifer Lapuyade! Dr Becky Kennedy talks to Simon Senik about “Sturdy Leadership” It was so good I had to listen to it twice. Yes, Dr Becky focuses on parent/child relationships; however, so much of what she says is good leadership and easy to apply in a workplace safety context. KEY TAKEAWAYS · Our kids won’t remember the specific dates and events of the California Fires or COVID-19 lockdowns. They will remember how the house felt and how their parents reacted. We want to be the parents who model resilience NOT panic and fear. · People connect with our intention rather than your intervention. Is it your intention to help people or shame and correct them? · Fault finding = shame = freezing up = anti-learning · Shame doesn't fix anything. Don't ask a question that you know the answer to it, because it's shaming. · Most important question: “Where is this coming from?”... rather than, “How do I fix it?” · If you are in a deadlocked argument think ‘What is their underlying wish/need? · Time is a resource: For those who don’t want to learn new leadership techniques would you rather spend a small amount of time preparing or a large amount of time reacting? https://lnkd.in/gbd39yE5

I had an eye-opening experience that reminded me of the power of small gestures and celebrations in the workplace.I was called into the office on a holiday and, to be honest, I wasn’t happy about it. Everyone else was relaxing, and there I was, tasked with creating a presentation for an upcoming event. I felt like my supervisor was disinterested and only wanted me in the office for reasons known only to him. But the next morning, during a meeting, everything became clear. It wasn’t just about the presentation; there was something much more significant behind that call to the office. https://lnkd.in/g7Rh4rwS This experience taught me that it’s often the small things—simple gestures, celebrations, or efforts to make you feel seen—that completely change your perspective. It reminded me why the saying, “People join companies, but they leave people” rings true. We often focus on tasks and deadlines, but it’s the human connections that truly shape our work experiences. #Leadership #WorkplaceCulture #EmployeeEngagement #Motivation #Teamwork #SmallThingsMatter #Gratitude #sandeepmenghani #yeshaswibhav #ybiance
