💻 Why do you think recruiters prefer an email instead of an application? 🤔 #RecruitingWoes 🔒 Are there privacy concerns about sharing your resume with a random recruiter? For me, there definitely are! 🧐 I mean, who knows where my precious info is going? 🕵️♀️ #PrivacyMatters 📂 Don't companies value having a proper system to showcase all the juicy details to candidates? 🤷♂️ #SystemFailure 📞 Maybe it's a sneaky sales tactic to get you on the phone... But I'm not falling for that trap without more info! 🚫 I'm not calling you back just because you dangled a "😱 SUPER EXCITING REMOTE OPPORTUNITY 💻" in front of me, only to follow up with "I need a talented SOAR Engineer" and nothing else. 🙄 #SalesyTactics 🤩 Am I supposed to be excited about that? Especially when "talented" usually means they want to pay peanuts while expecting me to be a coding ninja? 🥷 No, thank you! #LowPayHighExpectations 🗣️ So, what do you think about this recruitment madness? Let's discuss and maybe come up with some solutions to make the process better for everyone! 🙌 #FixTheSystem #RecruitingRant #EmojisForDays #CollabNotRant

This is an actual exchange I had with a recruiter, this morning. It's fairly typical of the profession. When #recruiters ask me why we dislike them so much, or why we're hostile to them by default, this is why. Literally word for word, only names, details, and numbers redacted to protect the idiots. </begin> <recruiter>: Full Time Opportunity Good morning hope all is well. Hope you have a great day! I came across your profile on here and was very impressed. I have a Sr Software Engineer Full Time opportunity for a manufacturing company in <area not near you> or <area near you>. It was hybrid 2 days onsite 3 remote. <very low salary> with benefits, bonus potential and other perks. Alot of room for growth. I was curious to see if you were keeping an eye on the job market at this time Feel free to give me a call back or reply with an updated copy of your resume if interested in hearing more Best Regards, <recruiter name, title, address, phone numbers>. <me>: That compensation is very low for that experience level. I’m not currently looking but figured I’d let you know, out of courtesy, that you’re under the market. <recruiter>: Agree to Disagree <me>: Good luck 🍀 <recruiter> Thanks! </fin> This is a classic example of why I can't tolerate dealing with the general public. Let's break it down, and I'll explain how and why each of these is basically crazy stupid and irritating. First -- the context -- you're messaging me about a job with a crazy low comp (seriously, like 50% of what I'd ever be willing to accept, like, bad). Maybe it's a bot, and you're not really targeting me, fine. We'll grant you a freebie here, and that's being incredibly generous already. It would be fair to just outright ignore you for low-balling people at insulting rates. Your message asks me if I'm "keeping my eye on the job market", and I tell you that I always am, although not really looking ATM, and that your comp is low. You respond with "agree to disagree", as if that's an opinion. Here's the major problem I have with these people. They can't just admit that they're wrong. A pay band for a given title isn't an opinion! There's data. It's a *fact*. You can't "disagree" with facts -- you're just "incorrect". The fact remains true, no matter what your opinion of that fact is. It's not that hard "oh, sorry, I'll look into that." That's all you had to say, but that admission of "I am wrong" is just too much for most people nowadays.

Question for everyone out there hiring or recruiting: why do job postings list opportunities as 'Remote' on the widespread post, but then include a little caveat in the application that it actually requires time in-office? My theories: 1. There's confusion in the posting software/user error so they don't list 'hybrid' 2. They are trying to get the applicant far enough into the process where they may be willing to relocate (sort of a sunk-cost fallacy idea). 3. They have an applicate quota so they just list 'remote' so they get more applicants. None of these really make sense because it feels like the hiring team will just be inundated with applications that won't go anywhere. Any thoughts? #hiring #techjobs #remotework #techrecruiting #jobsearch #careers #software

If you're searching for at job - stop scrolling and read this!!! This is the ultimate job search hack - right here on LinkedIn! You've got to use the LinkedIn boolean search method! The most known method of job searching on LinkedIn is to go to the "Jobs" tab at the top of the feed and search for roles or companies you're interested in, but you're probably not hearing back if you're using the "easy apply" links. Most of the time recruiters don't event see those applicants. Now, for the better way to search - from your LinkedIn home page, go to the search box at the top and use boolean type searches such as: Hiring AND remote Hiring AND NYC Hiring AND Quality Hiring AND remote AND Software Engineer Then click on "posts" and "most relevant" and you'll find REAL people who have posted that they're hiring. This way you can reach out directly to the person who posted the opening - keep in mind that it may be a recruiter, hiring manager or employee. When you connect to someone directly, you're that much closer to moving forward in the process then just applying via the main jobs tab. I talked to another job seeker in the executive IT space today who applied for over 300 roles without a single interview. The pattern is the same: most of the roles were Remote, and the majority were "one-click" or "easy apply" positions. There is nothing easy about searching for a job. That should be a clue. I recommended to him what I tell everyone on LinkedIn and in my coaching: limit your applications to remote jobs and send your resume to the Hiring Manager directly. #newconfig #recruitingtips

A company posts a remote job with "Easy Apply" and gets 2,000 applicants. 97% of the resumes are generic, don't meet basic requirements, or are AI-generated. The recruiter, already focused on selected candidates and other roles, doesn’t even see most applications. You apply on day three as candidate #1329 with a polished resume, but it never gets viewed. Weeks later, you receive an auto-rejection after the job is filled. This highlights the importance of targeted networking and personal branding. In today’s market, simply applying isn’t enough—you need to connect directly with the right people to get noticed.

I sympathize with people using #Desperate in this rough time. You may be missing the logic. As a #SoftwareEngineer, I recognize that an update on the front-end does not always update the back-end. If you update your profile pic, the back-end doesn't update. Looking at LinkedIn, there are 3 options: * Open to Work * Open to Hiring * Open to Providing Services These 3 statuses are used by LinkedIn to serve your profile up to interested parties (IE: recruiters). If you're going to display #Desperate, make sure that you keep your 'Open to' set to 'Open to Work'. It's a rough time for us all. Keep the odds stacked in your favor.

Ever get a cold outreach from a "recruiter" that was fishier than a school of piranhas in a bathtub? The one I got recently was a prime example. On a quick glance, it seemed legitimate enough, but I questioned why this person would be reaching out to me in the first place. Here is what I pulled out after rereading the message again. 1) The role was one I had no experience or even related job history to justify the cold outreach. 2) Company name shared its moniker with a very famous and very fictional adversary in a post apocalyptic saga. 3) The website for the company showed it was launched in March of this year. 4) The only contact listed in the WHOIS search routed to a blank site. All of these things on their own? Probably not a big deal. But together? The job market is rough right now, but don't be afraid to dig, push back, and ask questions. Protecting yourself from scams should NEVER be disqualifying to a real recruiter. And if it is, you are probably dodging a bullet.
I had someone DM me and claim they were from a recruiting company. They were asking me to send off my resume before they told me anything about the job. When I asked for the name of the company, they said it was Emerge. There are alot of companies by that name btw. So when I asked what city and state they were based out of, they only said the USA and again asked me for my resume. I asked what would be the best email to send my resume and they told me to send it to a gmail account. Something felt off about it. I checked out the person's profile, 5 connections, I checked out every single website with that company name, none were currently hiring remote (based off their websites). They claimed to have 20+ years experience doing this but it just felt off. Trust your gut. If it doesn't feel right, it probably isn't. #wewanttowork #dontwasteourtime #stopthescamming
