"How can we remain optimistic through life, and how can we as a society remain optimistic?" President Tharman Shanmugaratnam this thoughtful question during his closing fireside chat with DBS Bank CEO Piyush Gupta, and broached the topic of how we as a society can remain active and contribute to the community so that we feel happy, purposeful and optimistic throughout our life. This week, we participated in The Impact Beyond Summit 2024 by DBS Foundation knowledge partner to Heritas' Asia Impact First Fund. The day started with an engaging welcome address by Karen Ngui, Head of DBS Foundation and an exciting keynote session by Dan Buettner, New York Times bestselling author and founder at Blue Zones. This was followed by a plenary session where our CEO and Executive Director Wai Chiew CHIK spoke alongside fellow panellists Mary Ann Tsao (Chairman and Founding Director, Tsao Foundation), Gillian Tee (Founder, Homage), Nathaniel Farouz 高天禮 (Managing Director, Senior Living at Keppel Ltd.) and moderated by Eugene Hong, MD (Executive Director, Head Pharmaceuticals and Healthcare, DBS Bank). This was an insightful session on the topic of "How can we leverage technology and innovation to improve healthspan", where the importance of creating an ecosystem network and enabling elders was emphasised, and innovation, technology and AI can be utilised (with the right context) to effectively integrate and support elders to age in place and age healthily in all sense - physically, mentally, financially etc. Having launched Asia Impact First Fund last year thanks to DBS being an anchor investor, we continue to applaud the vital role of DBS Foundation in championing leading social enterprises. Our heartiest congratulations to the DBS Foundation Honourees Bettr, S4S Technologies , Bettermilk, Voibook, Du Anyam, Waste4Change, SEI, ImpactHK, Haqdarshak, IMDA - you are all leaders in your fields driving and creating meaningful impact! #impactinvesting #impact #socialenterprises #DBSFoundation

“Which is a priority to you? Social impact or return on investments?” Tackling this question from an audience member at a panel discussion during the 2024 World Ageing Festival, Claire Wong, Executive Director of DBS Foundation and Chik Wai Chiew, CEO of Heritas Capital, said an investor should always expect a return for any investments made. The real question becomes – what kind of returns? Together with Heritas Capital, we formed the Asia Impact First Fund (AIFF) as we believe returns aren’t just financial gains, but also the long-term social and environmental impact. AIFF takes an impact-first approach when investing in innovative and high-growth social enterprises, giving them the patient capital they need to thrive and fulfil their potential, and scale up both their business and impact. In 2023, AIFF invested its SGD 2 million in coffee and beverage social enterprise Bettr Group to grow its roastery and fund programmes that help marginalised communities. The fund also looks to support more social enterprises that are addressing pressing societal issues in Asia. #DBSFoundation #activeageing #digitalinclusion #financialinclusion #retirement #AAIF2024 #WAF2024 #WorldAgeingFestival #AgeingAsia

The Schwab Foundation for Social Entrepreneurship and World Economic Forum showcasing the work of Common Good Marketplace?!? I am grateful and humbled that we've had the opportunity to share our mission and what we've built on a global scale. Almost a year ago we joined a working group with leading social impact practitioners, corporates, funders and experts to develop a landmark report on innovative finance that was just released. Below is an excerpt and you can find the full report here: https://lnkd.in/eYAMcauM "Building on this market experience, some stakeholders are testing the idea of tradeable impact, where social impact credits are valued and traded, thereby democratizing market access. The environmental credit markets, such as the carbon market, exemplify the potential of OBF to standardize and scale. Payment models such as SPCs (Social Progress Credits) or exchange platforms like Common Good Marketplace are facilitating the emergence of the social impact market equivalent." What's next? The next phase of this work will focus on taking outcome-based financing to tradable impact and display case studies of CGM's marketplace transactions of Verified Impact Assets (VIAs). Stay tuned! #tradableimpact #impactexchange #SDGs #SPCs

Companies face growing ever increasing scrutiny from customers, regulators and policy makers of the impact that they have on the world. Demonstrating the positive social impact you’re having can be difficult, however, and too much money is wasted on initiatives that don’t deliver real progress. What if we told you there’s a way for companies to contribute to society in a way that is measurable and reportable – connecting the dots between funding, prosperity, and positive impact that changes people’s lives? Common Good Marketplace was designed to make these connections, and we are delighted to have collaborated with the Schwab Foundation for Social Entrepreneurship and the World Economic Forum on the development of a new report to help businesses navigate this challenging landscape. 🤝 Offering a practical roadmap for organisations looking to integrate social impact into their corporate engagement strategy, “Beyond Compliance: Embedding Impact through Innovative Finance” explores how companies can harness the power of new finance models, like social impact marketplaces, to find and fund the organisations making a real difference in the world and understand the impact of donations. 🌎 We are proud to have been named in this report as a specialist and trusted advisor in innovative finance tools that deliver tangible social outcomes, and we encourage all businesses large and small to join this movement! 🚀 You can read the full report here ➡️https://lnkd.in/eYAMcauM #ImpactVerification #SDGs #ImpactMarketplace #SocialImpact #CSR #CorporateSocialResponsibility

Excited to share that I’ve successfully completed the NISM course on Listing on the Social Stock Exchange! This program has provided me with in-depth knowledge about the growing intersection of finance and social impact, and I am thrilled to have gained insights into how social enterprises can access capital while promoting sustainable growth. The course helped me understand the regulatory frameworks, governance structures, and the key considerations for listing on a social stock exchange, which is becoming an increasingly important part of India’s capital markets. As the demand for socially responsible investing rises, the Social Stock Exchange presents a unique opportunity for organizations aiming to create positive social change to raise funds and scale their initiatives. In this course I've gained knowledge on following topics: 🔹 Registration and Listing for NPO's and FPE's on SSE. 🔹 Social Enterprises - Instruments and Processes. 🔹 Entities recognised as NPO's. 🔹 Criteria for NPO for Registration and Fund raising. 🔹 Zero coupon zero principal Instruments. 🔹 Entities recognised as FPE's. 🔹 Criteria for FPE's for fund raising. 🔹 Disclosure requirements for Social Enterprises. 🔹 Annual reporting formats. I look forward to leveraging this newfound knowledge and contributing to the growth of the sector, helping bridge the gap between impact-driven organizations and investors. Grateful for this learning experience and excited to continue exploring the potential of socially impactful financial solutions. #SocialStockExchange #NISM #SustainableFinance #ImpactInvesting #FinancialInclusion #LearningJourney
