Across the globe, major ports are expanding to accommodate larger vessels and handle increased cargo volumes, enhancing operational efficiency and capacity. However, these processes often translate into prolonged construction periods, causing disruptions and escalating costs. Finding ways to speed up construction without sacrificing safety and quality is essential. At TWD, we have taken on these challenges with our innovative Automatic Piling Gate technology. By automating the alignment process, we have substantially reduced piling times and enhanced precision, ensuring accelerated project completion while raising firm safety standards. Our successful implementation of the Automatic Piling Gate in the Dover Port Expansion project serves as a testament to the efficacy of this technology. With this solution, we achieved a 50% increase in the piling rate, minimising disruptions to port activities and establishing a new standard for port construction. As Part of the Bellingham Shipping Terminal Modernization Project the Port of Bellingham’s contractor (American Construction) has removed a section of dock at the Bellingham Shipping Terminal, and is working to remove the old dock pilings. On or around September 16th 2024, the installation of new pilings will be accomplished using both a vibratory hammer and an impact hammer. An increase in daytime noise levels can be expected during these intermittent operations (Operational hours are 7am – 10pm). When in operation, the vibratory hammer is expected to make noise and the impact hammer will make repeated loud bangs as the steel hammer hits the 155 foot long, 24 inch diameter hollow steel pile. For more information on the Bellingham Shipping Terminal Modernization Project, follow this link: https://ow.ly/5hsj50TfJ2P This project is partially funded by a grant awarded by the U.S. Department of Transportation, Maritime Administration as part of the Port Infrastructure Development Program. SF Marina is playing an important role in the Femern Link tunnel development by supplying floating concrete dock pontoons for the project’s tugboat pier. The 215m pier is comprised of ten 20m x 10m SF1850 floating concrete pontoons and one 15m-long centre section with a 28° end. This allows the array to gently angle away from the stone breakwater for double-sided docking. Heavy-duty SF1850 series pontoons are designed to handle the rigors of commercial use. Virtually unsinkable, they offer approximately 970kg/m2 of buoyancy yet are extremely stable. Strong and buoyant SF Marina W400 Connectors deliver two 105 tonnes per joint of breaking strength. Internal corner pile guides allow the pier to maintain its 1m freeboard while 21 aluminum bull bollards provide ample tie up locations. Eight rescue ladders and three ring buoy/fire extinguisher pedestals help ensure worker safety. The concrete pontoons were made at SF Marina’s Wallhamn, Sweden facility and transported to the site by truck. The company has six precast manufacturing locations across the globe and a robust delivery network to keep construction schedules on time and logistics expenses low. Strengthening links between Scandinavia and Central Europe, the Femern Link tunnel is Denmark’s largest infrastructure project. It’s part of a growing green traffic corridor throughout Europe. The 11-mile tunnel will connect the Danish island of Lolland with the German island of Fehmarn, reducing travel time from 45 minutes by ferry to a mere ten minutes and seven by electric rail. Back in April, a fatal accident at the Fehmarnbelt Tunnel site cast a shadow over the project. But the project is on track. Recently, His Majesty King Frederik X of Denmark officially inaugurated the first tunnel element. Keep up to date with the latest industry news on Maritime Journal; https://lnkd.in/edQ2kNkV

100 Tonne Grove Other Rough Terrains unveiled at Bauma 2022 included the 100 tonne Grove GRT8100-1, an upgraded version of its GRT8100, with a new chassis and componentry, taken from the larger 120 tonne GRT8120. The new 100 tonner also has an updated engine and transmission pack and new wider cab, with the option of the manufacturer's MAXbase variable outrigger setup and monitoring. However, it retains the overall dimensions, counterweight and five section, 47 metre full power boom of the unit it replaces. Late last year the first GRT800-1 to arrive in the UK was delivered to Scotland's port services group PSG Marine & Logistics Ltd , which took the full boom and extensions package. The company ordered the new crane at Vertikal Days last year and will use it to support dockside logistical operations, supporting the marine, offshore oil, gas and wind energy sectors in the Scottish Highlands. Steve Clark of PSG said: “We have run a Grove RT600E Rough Terrain crane for many years and it has delivered reliable and productive service. In particular, it offers great time savings with its pick & carry capabilities.” Grove, a pioneer of the swing cab Rough Terrain crane in the late 1960s, dominated the market in the 1980s and into the 1990s, but now has to share the market with more players than at any time in the Rough Terrain's history. It now offers a range of 12 GRT Rough Terrain models ranging from 30 to 150 tonnes. 𝐕𝐚𝐧 𝐎𝐨𝐫𝐝 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐁𝐨𝐬𝐤𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐬 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐭𝐞 𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐡 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝’𝐬 𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐢𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐮𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐥 👷♂️🚧 Fehmarn Belt Contractors (FBC), a joint venture between Van Oord and Boskalis, has completed the dredging work for the tunnel trench of the Fehmarnbelt Tunnel between Denmark and Germany. Van Oord’s trailing suction hopper dredger Vox Amalia together with Boskalis’ trailing suction hopper dredgers Crestway and Shoalway recently dredged the last cubic meters from the 18-kilometer-long trench in the seabed after almost three years of dredging to create the trench. With this FBC is signing off on the dredging work for the tunnel trench. FBC’s dredging work is not quite finished, as the final part of this project, the embankments around the tunnel entrances on both the German and Danish sides will be removed, including dredging the underlying connection of the trench. Once this done in the next months, the installation of the tunnel elements in the trench by another contractor will start to form the longest immersed tunnel in the world. It consists of a direct road and rail connection between Germany and Denmark, thus becoming the fastest route between Scandinavia and Central Europe for both passenger and freight transport. 🚇 #VanOord #Marineingenuity #Dredging #MarineInfrastucture #WeSucceed
