What Are the Required Skills for a Successful Career? if you are looking for specific skills, not knowing where your career is heading, you won't find them in this post. I apologize for not being able to answer your specific question. It's analogous to asking what questions would appear in the final exam. The correct approach is, you should begin with answering what you want to do with your career. Once you have narrowed it down to which industry, sector, division, department, and positions, then you can focus on what are the needed skills to achieve your career goals. Supposed you want to venture into semiconductor for example. Then, you need to decide whether it's going to be product design, front end (FE aka fab), or backend (BE aka assembly and test) or support functions. Within FE/BE, you may want to choose FEOL (front end of line), MOL (middle of line), or BEOL (backend of line). Some of these terms may vary from one company to another. You also have departments to choose from. It could be, technology, quality, production, finance, HR, planning, logistics, purchasing, sales & marketing and facility. Your engineering positions could be, product/test, integration, process, equipment, maintenance, automation, quality, failure analysis, facility, SHE, design, simulation, product verification, production, industrial etc. There are also non-engineering positions. Each of these paths require specific technical skills and more common soft/essential skills. If you're a junior in any industry, do consult your buddy, mentor, seniors or your manager for your needed skills, coupled with your career planning and training needs. #careeradvice I #careeeplanning I #skillset

I recently interviewed for a well-known semiconductor company in the U.S. The entire process included an initial screening, a first interview and a final interview, lasting about a month. Although I didn’t make it past the final round, I gained valuable insights that I believe could help others navigating the job market. 1) RESEARCH - Researching the company well, understanding their product, pain points, future aspirations and empathizing with them helped me interact with the recruiters well during the initial info session. See whether they provide future sponsorships for international students. If they have a strict no-sponsorship policy, you have a low to zero chance of getting hired at their organization. 2) ROLE - Gain in-depth insights into the role and responsibilities. The interviewers want to see if you are capable of doing the required job. Be curious about how you can contribute to the role. 3) PRIOR EXPERIENCES - Tailor your Resume and prior experiences to the role description. If you do not have similar direct experience, show them you bring great transferable skills from your other experiences. Make sure to use quantifiable results in your Resume that show impact of your work. 4) INTERVIEW - Make the interview look like a two-way interactive conversation where you introduce yourself, show what skills and experiences you bring to the table and why you are curious about the company, their work and vision. When the interviewees ask "Do you have any questions?", never say "No". Ask good meaningful questions like "How do you measure the impact of this role?", "What growth opportunities are available within the role and company?", "How does a successful candidate look like?". These questions generally have a lasting impact on the recruiters. 5) FEEDBACK - If you do not make past the final round (Like me), ask the recruiter about feedback. What exactly were they looking for so you can improve yourself for later interviews. These often act as Lessons Learnt and help you do better next time. With that all being said, I'm #OpenToWork for Mechanical Design Engineer, Equipment Engineer or Manufacturing Engineer full-time roles staring January 2025. #InternationalStudents #USA #STEM
