🌍 Great news for Filipino guest workers in Hungary! 🇵🇭➡️🇭🇺 Filipino workers can stay in Hungary after all! 🙌 Thanks to a recent government decision, the Philippines now meets the conditions required for its citizens to work here. This is especially great news for the agricultural sector, where they are considered indispensable. 🌾💪 Although the regulation introduced just before Christmas caused uncertainty, a statement from Minister Péter Szijjártó has now clarified that the Philippines complies with the necessary requirements. It seems that in the past weeks, an organization has been established to ensure compliance with the rules, clearing all obstacles. ✅ What do you think about this decision and its impact on Hungary’s labor market and communities? TRANSMIGRATION: BUILDING MODERN ECONOMIC OPPORTUNITIES THROUGH MARITIME LOGISTICS HUBS In the past, the transmigration program successfully relocated 750,000 families, giving them a chance to build a better life. Today, their children and grandchildren are working in major cities, benefiting from the improved welfare their families achieved. However, modern transmigration must be designed to attract population movement naturally, not just as a forced relocation. With hundreds of ships passing through the straits of Eastern Indonesia every day, there is tremendous potential to create TRADE CONNECTIVITY by developing PORTS AS LOGISTICS HUBS and/ or TRANSHIPMENT PORTS. These ports would not only serve as distribution centers for international trade routes, but also revitalize local economies by generating jobs and creating new economic opportunities. By reforming the transmigration program, strategic regions across Indonesia can thrive naturally, attracting population movement while turning PORTS into engines of local economic growth, seamlessly integrated into the global market. This vision for a reformed transmigration program reminds me of my late father, M.M. Sangian (Papie), who worked alongside Bapak Sumitro Djojohadikusumo. My memories of Papie inspire me ♥️ #Transmigration #MaritimeEconomy #LogisticsHub #TranshipmentPort #TransmigrationReform #TradeConnectivity #PopulationMovement #GlobalLogistics

🌏 Global South Paper of the Month! "Filipino migrant workers’ leisure and subjective quality of life in Macao" by Jaeyeon Choe O' Regan, PhD, Michael J. O' Regan, PhD & Albert Kimbu. Available in free access in World Leisure Journal, the official #journal of World Leisure Organization: https://lnkd.in/ggFCGVGP ABSTRACT Utilizing 14 semi-structured interviews in a non-western context, this exploratory study examines how Filipino migrant workers’ leisure satisfaction and QoL are intertwined in Macao, China. The study reveals that Filipino migrant workers regard “family and friends”, and a sense of community as central to their QoL. Regarding leisure, the Filipino migrant workers experienced a lack of time-off and long working hours (structural leisure constraints) whilst living without their families in the Philippines (interpersonal leisure constraints). In addition, the Filipino migrant workers noted that few leisure options were available to them, and given commercial options dominate in Macao, the perceived cost of leisure participation clashes with the Filipino migrant workers responsibility to send remittances home. It is recommended that authorities and employers explore the importance of subjective QoL indicators such as sense of community that emerge from marginalized social groups, such as migrant workers, into their measurement systems and policy deliberations, to create a livable and sustainable community for all. Our study enriches the extant research by broadening the research location to focus on “voices” from low income migrants in a non-western context. #research #leisure #leisurestudies #community #filipino #migrant #migration #macao #china

Malaysia hosts a significant immigrant population, primarily from neighboring countries like Indonesia, Bangladesh, Myanmar, and Nepal. These migrants play a crucial role in various sectors of the Malaysian economy, particularly in labor-intensive industries such as manufacturing, agriculture, and construction. While they contribute to economic growth, they also face challenges like exploitation, poor working conditions, and limited access to basic services. Malaysia's immigration policies and the treatment of immigrants remain complex issues with ongoing debates and discussions.
