A new pioneering net-zero life sciences research and design report, ‘Innovation in Science Buildings: The Path to Net Zero,’ has launched, following an insightful panel session held at this year’s UKREiiF Conference. The report is a collaboration between Turner & Townsend alinea, Bennetts Associates, Heyne Tillett Steel and Hoare Lea. This comprehensive research study brings together and applies the cross-sector industry experience of its contributors to produce a unique net-zero prototype. The report offers best practice design solutions, to substantially reduce the carbon intensive environmental impact that life science buildings are responsible for now and in the future. Contributors discussed the report in detail during the panel session chaired by Emily Slupek, Partner at Bidwells. EFIS Centre is leading the EU-funded SUBMERSE project that is prototyping and deploying innovative technologies into existing submarine cables to monitor the Earth and its systems. The project has key areas of potential impacts, including scientific advancements, innovation through standardisation of technical infrastructure and addressing key societal and environmental challenges. On 4th-5th September, our team members Matías Barberis Rami & Carmela - カルメラ Asero - アセロ led the first workshop on impact, sustainability and exploitation of the project and the infrastructure. This workshop was held as during a project workshop in Potsdam 🇩🇪 hosted by Helmholtz-Centre Potsdam - German Research Centre GFZ Follow the SUBMERSE project page to stay updated with recent developments. The UK’s Concordat to Support Research Integrity (the Concordat) 2024 is due to undergo its five-year review in which the content of the Concordat will be updated and revised. The Concordat provides a vital national framework for the practice and governance of research integrity in the UK and will ensure that it is fit for the future and continues to safeguard research integrity. Your views will be collated by UKRI and then shared with and analysed by the Concordat to Support Research Integrity signatories review group. The survey comprises of 29 questions, with a mixture of multiple-choice questions and long-form questions. Longform responses are optional, the survey may take around 20 minutes to complete. Funding will be provided to support engagement activities with local communities, public and third sector organisations. You must be based at a UK research organisation eligible for Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) funding. Design Accelerators connect directly with the wider Future Observatory: Design the Green Transition Programme. The full economic cost (FEC) of your project can be between £35,000 and £65,000. AHRC will fund 80% of the FEC.
