However, certain age groups are at higher risk, including: - Children under 2 years - Adults 65 years and older Myth 2: Pneumonia is always contagious Fact: Not all types of pneumonia are contagious. Overuse or misuse of antibiotics can lead to resistance. Myth 4: Pneumonia is a mild illness Fact: Pneumonia can range from mild to severe and even life-threatening, especially in high-risk groups. Risk Factors: - Age (as mentioned earlier) - Chronic medical conditions (e.g., diabetes, heart disease, COPD) - Weakened immune system (e.g., HIV/AIDS, cancer treatment) - Smoking Treatment Options: - Antibiotics for bacterial pneumonia - Antiviral medications for viral pneumonia - Supportive care (e.g., oxygen therapy, hydration, rest) When to Seek Expert Opinion or Hospitalization: - Difficulty breathing or shortness of breath - Chest pain or severe cough - Fever above 103°F (39.4°C) - Confusion or disorientation - Severe headache or stiff neck - Failure to improve with treatment Conclusion: Pneumonia is a serious infection that requires prompt attention and treatment. By understanding the myths and facts, risk factors, and treatment options, laymen can take appropriate steps to prevent and manage pneumonia. Remember, if you or a loved one is experiencing severe symptoms, seek expert opinion or hospitalization immediately.

The lungs, as the body's first line of defense, are located at the highest position within the chest, directly interfacing with the outside world through the mouth and nose. It has significant responsibilities, including gas exchange, metabolizing harmful substances, defending against microbial invasion, and regulating blood circulation. Meanwhile, they are also delicate organs that require careful protection. Aescin has been used extensively for treating acute lung injury due to its potential anti-inflammatory properties and protective effects on lung tissues, which can alleviate inflammation reactions, reduce lung damage degree, and improve pulmonary function. #Aescin #Gaoyuanbio #Botanic Extracts https://lnkd.in/dgKxkrDS

https://lnkd.in/dX262S2S Sodium and Potassium channel blockers good for cardiomyocytes regarding arrhythmias. B blockers and Calcium channel blockers good for sa and av nodes regarding arrhythmias (but also depress contractility in cardiac muscle). By delaying depolarization or repolarization you prolongue the effective refractory period thus heartmuscle less excitable , more time between hearbeats and decrease in heart rate. By increasing repolarization, you increase the qt interval and predispose the heart to so called early afterdepolarizations leading to premature ventricular contraction which can initiate ventricular tachycardias including Torsades De Pontes.

Behind the Mystery Acute hepatic porphyria, or AHP, refers to a family of rare, genetic diseases characterized by potentially life-threatening attacks and, for some people, chronic pain and other debilitating symptoms that negatively impact everyday life. Severe, unexplained abdominal pain is the most common symptom of AHP, and people may also experience nausea, vomiting, seizures, anxiety and depression, and pain in their limbs, back, or chest. Because AHP is so rare and its symptoms resemble those of more common conditions, misdiagnosis is common, which can lead to unnecessary treatments, surgeries, and hospital stays. In fact, people with AHP can wait up to 15 years for an accurate and confirmed diagnosis. Common misdiagnoses include depression, endometriosis, and fibromyalgia, as well as gastrointestinal disorders like irritable bowel syndrome and appendicitis. One of the most definitive techniques a doctor uses to help determine if a patient has AHP is a urine test, which includes analysis of PBG (porphobilinogen), ALA (aminolevulinic acid), and porphyrin levels. We met with Dr. Angelika Erwin, a porphyria expert and member of the Porphyrias Consortium, as well as Nicole, who shares her experience living with AHP and recounts her 12-year search for a diagnosis. To learn more about AHP, speak with your doctor. You can also visit Alnylam’s www.PinpointAHP.com for educational information and resources. Alnylam Pharmaceuticals Julia Smith Ilana Jacqueline
