What will it take to make India an #agriculture #export powerhouse!!?? Agree with Dr. Parashram Patil on improving agri infra and reducing logistics costs. Beyond this, there is a pressing need for educating the farmers around crop stewardship. There's nothing more damaging to the quality and shelf life, than the wrong practices carried out on farms out of ignorance. Tata Chemicals and Desai AgriFoods were pioneers in educating #farmers for banana stewardship almost 15 years ago. The fruits of those efforts are being relished by everyone in banana exports now, for the past 5 years. Similar efforts for agronomic practices, balanced nutrition, IPM, pre and post harvest activities are required especially for #horticulture #crops to establish India's name as a supplier of consistent quality in agri output space. The rural dairy farms in Assam, India which is highly a milk deficit state is operating with use of variable inputs sub-optimally. This has been explored based on previously surveyed data of three representative districts of the state and found that inputs if reduced even by 50% on average may not decline the milk production of the farmers. This is what the application of bias-corrected technical efficiency procedure informed along with exploring the determinants of the efficiency of individual farmers in the recently published paper with Dr. Partha Pratim Sahu and Prof. Mrinal Kanti Dutta.

The Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) program has emerged as a cornerstone for improving farmers' incomes and ensuring economic stability in India. By providing direct income support of ₹6,000 annually to small and marginal farmers, the initiative benefits over 120 million farming households, offering much-needed relief in an era marked by climate uncertainties and rising input costs (Ministry of Agriculture, 2024). Recent policy advancements have complemented PM-KISAN's objectives. The integration of digital platforms, such as the PMFBY (Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana), has streamlined access to crop insurance, covering 25 million farmers annually against climate-related risks (Economic Survey, 2024). Yet, challenges persist. Only 50% of eligible farmers have adopted crop insurance, highlighting the need for enhanced awareness and outreach. The growing emphasis on farmer education, coupled with programs like soil health mapping and direct benefit transfers, underscores the importance of long-term resilience. However, the real impact of PM-KISAN lies not just in immediate relief but in its potential to empower farmers to invest in sustainable practices. As we envision a future of resilient agriculture, how can we expand the reach of such programs and ensure every farmer secures a sustainable livelihood? Let's discuss. #Agriculture #Farmers #PMKisan #Sustainability #IndiaAgriculture
