Happy World Urdu day! As well as being the national language of Pakistan, Urdu has large speaker populations across South Asian and the Middle East and is currently spoken by over 230 million people in 32 countries around the world. It’s a deeply poetic language containing and informed by the lore and liberation struggles of its growing, diverse language community. The Urdu ghazal, a distinct literary tradition dating back to the 17th century, remains popular today, with a canon spanning classical and contemporary works including that of renowned poets like Mirza Ghalib and Parveen Shakir.

Last year saw the completion of our first ethnic language New Testament in the language of Gilan: Gilaki. There are 3 million Gilaks living in Gilan in the Northwest of Iran. The region is largely unreached with no known churches, though there are a handful of scattered believers. By God’s grace, Gilan’s story is about to change! As our team were introduced to the audio dramatization of the Gospels in Gilaki, most were brought to tears. This has been a dream long in the making. The fruit will be seen for years to come. Hear a sample audio dramatization of the Bible in Gilaki here: https://lnkd.in/g2VsiN9s Transform Iran has identified 22 key languages where translated Scriptures will have the most significant impact on Church formation in Iran. Our team of 145 translators and lead reviewers are working across multiple languages with the goal of translating the full Bible in all 22. The priority remains to ensure every man woman and child in Iran hears the gospel, understands it, and has the opportunity to respond to it. Reading or hearing the Word of God in the mother tongue bypasses many hurdles and enables the listener to truly understand and connect with the message. Unless these people groups have a Bible in their own language that can be used in preaching, worship, prayer, and teaching, the impact of the recent rapid growth of the Church could be superficial at best. #iran #gilan #mothertongue #heartlanguage #BibleTranslation
