Voter Support for Policies Associated With Child Health as National Campaign Priorities Key Points Question:  Policies that are associated with child health are rarely included among political candidates’ campaign priorities, but would US voters support candidates with a child-focused legislative agenda? Findings:  In this nationally representative survey study of 2014 participants, most registered voters would be likely to vote for candidates who strongly support national funding for multiple different policy issues associated with child health, including equitable Medicaid coverage for children across all states. Voter support was associated with gender, political party, and the presence of children younger than 18 years in the household. Meaning:  The study results suggest that political candidates may underappreciate broad public support for policy priorities that promote child health. https://lnkd.in/eTCee5M9

“We’re thrilled to see that creating an aging equity agenda for Illinois has become a priority for Governor Pritzker,” says Margie Schaps, Executive Director of Health & Medicine Policy Research Group. This year, Illinois Aging Together—a campaign for aging equity led by Health & Medicine—achieved a monumental milestone with Governor Pritzker’s executive order to establish a planning commission for a Multi-Sector Plan for Aging. 🏛️ This commission will create a 10-year roadmap to make Illinois a better place to live, work, and age, ensuring that no one is left behind. Aging equity is critical as Illinois’ population of older adults grows rapidly. By 2025, nearly 3.5 million Illinoisans will be over age 65, with the 85+ population doubling since 2000. 📊 Without proper planning, health inequities and community barriers will continue to limit opportunities for many as they age.
