At AMMAN, we conduct reclamation activities concurrently with mining operations. We adopt cutting-edge technology, such as satellite imagery and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV), to monitor reclamation progress. From the UAV imagery analysis, we utilize the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) to assess greenness levels, plant cover, and biomass/carbon absorption values. Thanks to NDVI analysis, we have transformed former mining lands to resemble natural forests, with an index close to +1, indicating a high density of green leaves. #AMMAN #LegacyofBest #BoldImpact

Mapping geology and hydrogeology in volcanic areas can often be nearly impossible, especially when faced with steep slopes and a lack of accessible hiking trails. One option to overcome this challenge is remote aerial photography using FPV drones. With these tools, we can investigate areas up to 2500 meters above sea level and fly up to 15 kilometers to reach difficult-to-access outcrops. Additionally, we can identify dry riverbeds that could serve as infiltration zones for the hydrogeological system #FPV #DRONE #Volcanic #Hydrogeology #AerialPhotography

On January 17, 2025, geologists from the U.S. Geological Survey (@usgs) Hawaiian Volcano Observatory (@usgsvolcanoes) flew an uncrewed aircraft system (UAS, or drone) into Halema‘uma‘u crater to capture this close-up video of spattering at the two active vents during episode 4 of the ongoing Kīlauea summit eruption. So far, there have been 7 episodes of the eruption, which is currently paused. This UAS flight was conducted with the permission of Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park (@hawaiivolcanoesnps), owing to HVO’s mission to monitor active volcanoes in Hawaii, assess their hazards, issue warnings, and advance scientific understanding to reduce the impacts of eruptions. Unauthorized launching, landing, or operating of a UAS from or on lands and waters administered by the National Park Service is prohibited under 36 CFR Closures & Public Use. Video captured by USGS geologist and remote pilot Michael Zoeller. #geology #science #USGS #Volcanoes #Drones #Hazards #Eruption #Lava #Kīlauea #Kilauea

Case study – Tennant Creek - drones find gold with magnets The Tennant Creek mineral field in the Northern Territory (Australia) is a historical mining field, with the first gold having been discovered there in 1874. "Deployment in the Tennant Creek Mineral Field ... which has a > 85-year history of magnetic investigations of magnetised ironstone orebodies, has shown that UAVs can effectively filter ... surface noise ... At the same time there is a 1.7x to 7x efficiency gain compared to ground operations, ... UAV magnetometers are an ideal choice for fast and effective magnetics exploration." "UAV magnetic survey As part of the 2021–2022 work program, a small UAV survey was [flown] in June 2021 by AirGeoX - Airborne Geo Exploration, using a hybrid petrol–electric quadcopter with a 36 km/hr ground speed. The aircraft was positioned by an autopilot system with a sampling rate of 400 Hz, using three Inertial Measurement Units, a fluxgate magnetometer and RTK GPS to give a positional accuracy of +−2 m vertically and +−1 m horizontally." The UAV was running ArduPilot - just saying! "In this report, we present a case study of the effectiveness of a UAV–deployed magnetometer system in the presence of significant ground-based maghaemite noise masking an economically significant Cu–Au brownfields mineral exploration province at Tennant Creek mineral field in the Northern Territory (Australia). Our UAV grid and profile data are compared to regional aeromagnetic and ground magnetic datasets over the same features, allowing their effectiveness and efficiency to be properly evaluated."
Our peer reviewed paper in collaboration with AirGeoX - Airborne Geo Exploration on the effectiveness of drone magnetics for IOCG exploration in naturally noisy brownfields environments is finally out this week in Australia's premier geophysical journal, Exploration Geophysics! https://lnkd.in/g9QVbXsP
