When we began this journey, we wanted someone to pay attention. We wanted someone to collect the data on law enforcement suicide just as they were collecting the data on those killed and assaulted. On January 1, 2022, six years after we began, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) launched the LESDC to provide a mechanism for law enforcement agencies to report suicides and attempted suicides of law enforcement personnel, as defined within the LESDC Act, for the purpose of compiling national statistics on these tragedies. Authorized law enforcement agencies are now able to submit suicide information for their officers for incidents occurring on January 1, 2022, and forward. While it is limited in who can submit information and many departments are still skeptical about reporting the information to the FBI, it's off to a solid start and we are looking forward to seeing it expand and provide much-needed focus on this effort. #FirstHELPHistory #SuicideAwareness #FirstResponders

Yup. Another one reported. Remember: DV’s known to be a woefully underreported crime for many reasons. When it’s a law enforcement officer doing the crime, the reasons it’s not reported grow exponentially. That is, a victim is even less likely to report it. If it’s a LE officer on both sides of the equation- both perpetrator & victim - we’re not going to be hearing about it unless someone else who knows steps up. https://lnkd.in/e-GZsQ4e
