Iberia has received the world's first Airbus A321XLR aircraft and has finally put it into commercial service. After ensuring that the crews have received thorough training and that the aircraft is in good working order, it is expected to be gradually introduced on long-haul routes. Eventually, it will also be introduced on routes to the east coast of the United States. The A321XLR is not simply a replacement for existing Boeing 757s and 737-900s, but a new generation of aircraft that can provide passengers with a more comfortable narrow-body flight experience. Airlines that plan to introduce this aircraft in the future will be required to provide services that overturn the conventional wisdom that long-haul flights on narrow-body aircraft are painful. https://lnkd.in/g93wXJ7J

Very happy to read about the mega order placed by Cathay Pacific today for 60 Airbus A330-900Neos (30 firm + 30 options). It is the right way forward for CX, as it allows them to maintain "fleet continuity" as these planes would be replacing their existing Airbus A330-300s (39 units) so there is no re-training/certification what so ever required for their pilots and engineers. The two main benefits that the A339Neo brings to CX versus the A333s that it replaces are as follows: i. Up to 3 hours greater flying time hence permitting long haul flights to AKL, CHC and possibly NAN (Nadi), HNL, JED, MRU, IST, WAW, AMM, PRG in the future which the A333 cannot perform. ii. Better fuel burn i.e. A339Neo burns 6,477 liters per hour versus 7,099 liters for the A333 i.e. -9% On a seperate but more important note, the A339Neo is a much cheaper aircraft to purchase versus Boeing 787-10 and Airbus A350-900 hence big savings on CAPEX (capital expenditure) are incurred too. #A330neo #a330 #cathaypacific #hkg #oneworld #skyteam #staralliance #b787 #a350 #b777 #hongkong #airbus #kowloon

Global Airlines Airbus A380 1st Flight Delayed To 2025 Global Airlines has high ambitions across the Atlantic. Global Airlines is delaying the launch of its commercial operations to 2025, with its first Airbus A380, which was ferried to Glasgow Prestwick Airport (PIK) for maintenance and interior refitment, still undergoing these processes at the Scottish airport. ✈️ Pushed back to 2025 When the airline announced the acquisition of its first Airbus #A380 aircraft from the aircraft asset management company Dorrick Aviation in May 2023, the United Kingdom (UK)-based Global Airlines said that it would launch flights in the spring or summer of 2024. While the A380 that it ferried to PIK was a different airframe, the airline has continuously reassured that it would begin flights in 2024, the latest announcement, which broke the news about its partnership with Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe, indicated that it plans to launch passenger flights “next year.” Meanwhile, the airline’s only active Airbus A380, registered as 9H-GLOBL, was still undergoing maintenance and cabin retrofit processes at PIK. Global Airlines said that the next step of the maintenance process should start in the next few weeks, which would take it a step closer to launching operations next year... What to expect from the new aircraft Iberia is kitting the Airbus A321XLR out as a long-haul aircraft in a narrowbody airframe. While its standard A321s fit up to 232 passengers in a completely 3-3 layout, the XLR will have a 1-1 layout of 14 lie-flat seats in the front of the aircraft, followed by 168 economy seats in the traditional 3-3 layout behind the dividing bulkhead.

Cathay picks A330neo as future mid-sized widebody in 30-aircraft deal Cathay Pacific has selected the Airbus A330-900 as its new mid-sized widebody replacement, after placing a firm order for 30 new aircraft with rights for another 30. The purchases will make up the biggest chunk of a plan announced by Cathay on Wednesday to invest HK$100 billion ($12.83 billion) over seven years in its fleet, cabin products, lounges, and digital and sustainability projects. The planes will replace existing aircraft and will fly regionally within Asia, with the option to be used on longer-haul routes in the future. Deliveries are expected to begin from 2028 and be complete by the end of 2031. Hong Kong expects a new third runway to become fully operational by the end of this year, increasing airport capacity. Airbus says its A330-900 jets, the largest model of the new-generation A330neo family, can seat up to 460 people and reduce fuel consumption and carbon emissions by 25% compared to previous generation aircraft. https://lnkd.in/ggxjtg_y
