Chicago Architecture Center’s Post

We had a packed house on Thursday for a discussion about quantum computing and the Illinois Quantum & Microelectronics Park (IQMP) planned at the former USX South Works site. Led by our moderator Lesley Roth, panelists Curt Bailey, Josh Richman, and Alds. Peter Chico (10th) and Gregory Mitchell (7th) shed light on the technology, the site plan, open space and connectivity, and the potential job and economic benefits for nearby communities and the larger region. Both aldermen made emotional appeals for the need to reinvigorate surrounding neighborhoods that have suffered decades of disinvestment and population loss since the collapse of the steel industry. It's so important to make this investment work for all Chicagoans. We look forward to watching the progress unfold!
