*** Continuing Airworthiness Vs. Continued Airworthiness *** In the aviation industry, we often use the terms “Continuing airworthiness” and “Continued airworthiness” interchangeably, but they have distinct meanings. As per #ICAO Annex-08, “Continuing airworthiness is the set of processes by which an aircraft, engine, propeller or part complies with the applicable airworthiness requirements and remains in a condition for safe operation throughout its operating life”. This means that two aircraft of the same type and variant, like an #Airbus A330 (e.g. MSN # 123) and another A330 (e.g. MSN # 456), can have different Continuing airworthiness statuses. So, the aircraft operator / owner has to ensure the Continuing Airworthiness of each aircraft before flight. On the other hand, “Continued airworthiness” pertains to the upkeep of a “Type Design” and its associated approved data throughout its life. It's also referred to as "Type Airworthiness" or "Continuing Airworthiness of Type Design" (as per EASA). A common example is the issuance of Airworthiness Directives (ADs) for a specific aircraft type, like the Airbus #A330 series. In summary, Continuing airworthiness focuses on individual aircraft, while Continued airworthiness is an "aircraft type design-oriented process". Below illustration further explains the two concepts.
