🚀 CATALISI 4th Webinar: Reinforcing the Role of Universities in Local Innovation Systems is happening now! Our esteemed speaker, Roberto San Salvador del Valle, Director of Deusto Cities Lab Chair, is shedding light on what he defines as a WISE innovation ecosystem that combines both technological innovation and human values. Roberto emphasizes that while we have made strides in economic innovation, we must also focus on societal and democratic innovative values to address the global challenges we face today. Universities should serve as beacons of innovation, choosing areas to innovate that can genuinely improve local communities. They have a unique insight into their ecosystems and understand the impact they can have on cities and territories. If you missed the webinar, don’t worry! We will release the recording soon and post it on the CATALISI Learning Hub repository: https://lnkd.in/dUXaahkb Stay tuned! #CATALISI #Innovation #HigherEducation #LocalCommunities #SocietalImpact Our partners ⤵ APRE - Agenzia per la Promozione della Ricerca Europea | EY | F6S Innovation | ENoLL (European Network of Living Labs) | Kaunas University of Technology | Universitat Jaume I | Luiss Guido Carli University | University of Gdansk | University College Cork | AUTH Medical Physics & Digital Innovation Lab | Amsterdam UMC Sister projects ⤵ aUPaEU | Accelerate Future HEI Collaborations ⤵ PATTERN

The second session of the OpenInnoTrain 2024, Tallinn Summer School, Impact: A process beyond conclusion, co-presented by Professor Anne-Laure Mention and Dr. Avni Misra l PhD set the scene for the week long impact-mindset narrative by starting with: - the foundation knowledge of impact and its relevance - a deeper understanding of the role of impact in research and practise - an understanding of participant expectations of the summer school impact program. It was a dynamic, participant engaged session, first capturing participant understanding of impact, then shifting to sharing the program content including Definitions of #Impact of #Research and #Pathways from Research to Impact and showcasing, How do we create a research path to impact? The OpenInnoTrain SS Impact Process. Learning through the program and learning by sharing between the collective cohort was a wonderful and rich combination! Experimenting with University-Industry Collaboration! I. University–Industry Collaboration University–industry collaboration can help bridge the gap between groundbreaking discoveries and marketable products or services. While scientific research is primarily driven by the quest for knowledge, industry seeks to translate that knowledge into practical innovations that can impact society, stimulate economic growth, and address global challenges II. Complexity However, this process is fraught with complexities and barriers. Efforts to promote university–business collaboration have grown, yet these initiatives frequently face challenges such as misaligned goals, cultural differences, and limited resources III. Limited Evidence There is still very limited evidence on the effectiveness of the different types of activities undertaken by research institutions and innovation funders. This is in part due to the limited use of robust counterfactual evaluation methods, such as randomised experiments. IV. Why Experiment? Experimentation promotes innovative solutions to policy challenges, fosters a culture of continuous improvement, and helps de-risk the process of exploring new programme ideas V. This Playbook The ultimate goal of this handbook is to catalyse an increase in the use of experiments to improve the success of university-industry collaboration initiatives Check out the playbook by Sara García Arteagoitia and Albert Bravo-Biosca at Innovation Growth Lab here: https://lnkd.in/d8KZ7EmM #innovation #techtransfer #university #industry #research #IP #spinoff #researcg #randd #policy #innovationpolicy #startups Nesta Barcelona School of Economics

Thank you Frank Kumli for doing it again. As shown in the image below, and explained in some detail in the resource found at the link Frank has provided: The motivations, capabilities and resources of both university researchers and potential industry partners are the keys, and the matching process itself provides the link for exploration. And for experimentation, as is being advocated here. The potential for university-industry collaboration, specifically as it pertains to innovation and tech transfer, has been a place I have intersected with many times since I was first invited to participate in 1980, just as the Bayh-Dole act was passed into law here in the U.S. That event was a catalyst for conversations, then action. It is interesting to see how the basic issues -- barriers and tremendous upside have really not changed in the decades since. Many universities have embraced the opportunity with purpose and competence. Many more still can. #innovation #innovationthatmatters #techtransfer #university

José Rabelo, a researcher at the Universidade de Aveiro, is promoting innovation ecosystems between academia, the community, and companies. https://lnkd.in/dfgzkYHg Based on this research, a scientific article was published that aimed to foster and improve the development of innovation ecosystems between universities, industries, companies, and the society. Article link: https://lnkd.in/dyVi88VX This article proposes how to establish these collaborations, how to form alliances, and how the governance of these conglomerates that come together to develop technology and innovation should be carried out. It also addresses how this knowledge can reach society, through the promotion of human capital and social capital. Social capital is the relationships between the different entities that make up this ecosystem, how they relate to each other, and how they manage this relationship, until the end of their partnership, which may result in the filing of a patent or the transfer of technology. The idea is that this entire process occurs with a spirit of collaboration and trust between the different entities. “This article addressed these topics in order to strengthen an innovation ecosystem, through the relationships between the actors involved”, he emphasizes. https://lnkd.in/dfgzkYHg #90SegundosCiência #InnovationEcosystems #AcademicEntrepreneurship #ResearchImpact #UniversityIndustryCollaboration #SocialCapital #HumanCapital #TechnologyTransfer #InnovationForSociety #SustainableDevelopment #CollaborationInResearch #InnovationLeadership #TechnologicalDevelopment #ResearchAndInnovation #CommunityEngagement #IndustryPartnerships

🚀 Driving Transformation in European Universities with CATALISI 🚀 💡 In the CATALISI project, we empower universities to #transform by focusing on 14 intervention areas. These areas represent specific aspects that each Higher Education Institution (#HEI) chooses to improve as part of their transformational pathways. 🚀 With support from our expert partners' #acceleration services, each university develops tailored action plans to address these areas. 📈 We actively #monitor and #evaluate the success of these plans. If an approach isn’t working, we #adapt and refine it to ensure meaningful progress. Our aim is to scale these services to more European universities, transforming them into beacons of innovation. Our ultimate goal? To foster sustainable innovation #ecosystems within universities, tackling real challenges in their local communities through impactful research and collaborative efforts. 🌍✨ For a stronger, more innovative European Research Area! #HigherEducation #Innovation #Transformation #EuropeanValues #ResearchAndInnovation #CATALISI #ERA Our partners ⤵ APRE - Agenzia per la Promozione della Ricerca Europea | EY | F6S Innovation | ENoLL (European Network of Living Labs) | Kaunas University of Technology | Universitat Jaume I | Luiss Guido Carli University | University of Gdansk | University College Cork | AUTH Medical Physics & Digital Innovation Lab | Amsterdam UMC Sister projects ⤵ aUPaEU | Accelerate Future HEI Collaborations ⤵ PATTERN | DocTalent4EU | GILL
