Spark North East Link Tunnels D&C raised more than $124,000 for Movember this year, tripling last year’s total and coming near the top of the leaderboard in the Movember Construction Challenge involving companies across Australia. Michael W. from the Project Co Team initiated the process with Spark North East Link Tunnels D&C to strive to be the number one construction team in this year’s construction challenge. The money will be used to support men’s health, suicide prevention, and cancer research. On average men die 4.5 years earlier than women, often for reasons that are easily preventable. Almost 11 million men around the world are living with prostate cancer, and testicular cancer remains the most common cancer among young men. One man dies by suicide every minute, and construction workers are six times more likely to die by suicide than from a workplace accident. #CapellaCapital #SparkNorthEastLink #ProjectCo #Movember #MensMentalHealth

On October 26, I joined BreakthroughT1D and fellow riders in Death Valley to raise money for Type 1 diabetes (T1D) research. We pedaled 103 miles. The route: Furnace Creek to Badwater Basin, the lowest elevation in the Western hemisphere, to the turnaround at Jubilee Pass, 1,575 feet above the Badwater salt flats. A few stats: Number of riders: 111 Funds raised: More than $690,000. High temperature: 95 degrees beneath a desiccating desert sun. Personal Gatorade consumption: At least 8 liters over about 9 hours. BreakthroughT1D has revolutionized diabetes treatment. The organization funds talented scientists whose research sits at the medical frontier. This seed funding turbocharges work that can, eventually, attract support from deeper-pocketed commercial and government funders. BreakthroughT1D's approach is accelerating progress toward a cure. Although I can’t feel my knees, this ride will no doubt be the highlight of my year. #BreakthroughT1D

Cancer Research - The November Mile a Day Challenge - Day 4 Day 4 of my challenge to walk a mile a day for Cancer Research UK (CRUK) in the month of November. A new route today in a different town during my lunch break. My message today is a brief introduction to the three scope categories of green house gas emissions, generally categorised as carbon emissions. Scope 1 emissions are direct emissions made by sources that a company owns or controls and include fuel consumed by the company, such as oil, gas and coal as well as fuel used by a company's owned vehicles. Scope 2 emissions include the electricity that a company purchases from a power plant. Scope 3 emissions are all the other indirect emissions that occur in a company's value chain, meaning the full lifecycle from production to delivery to use and disposal. I will go into more detail on the ways to reduce your carbon emissions in the various scopes as I continue my challenge for November. Please support me in my challenge to raise funds for Cancer Research UK (CRUK) on my donations page: https://lnkd.in/exjeemA5 #CancerResearch #NovemberChallenge #FundRaising

Let the Mo grow! This year, DC Partnership is ready to fully embrace Movember—both in spirit and in action! While some of us will be channeling our inner Hulk Hogan and growing a mustache, we're making sure that everyone can get involved, even if growing a Mo isn’t in the cards. For those who can't (or don't want to) grow a Mo, we’ll be committing to walking or running 60 kilometers throughout the month. Why 60? Because every 60km represents a powerful cause: honouring the 60 men we lose to suicide every hour around the globe. You can knock out the 60km in one go or spread it out over the month—it’s all about getting moving and showing support. Whether you're growing a 'stache or getting that step count in, everyone can make a difference. We’re aiming to raise $5,000 for this important cause. If you'd like to contribute, please visit https://lnkd.in/gE-6g_it to donate. DC Partnership is a multi-disciplined building regulatory firm that provides expert and comprehensive consultancy services pertaining to Accessibility, Fire Safety Engineering, and Building Codes. It is Giving Tuesday, and we are pleased to take part in the social movement by making a donation to Simpson University. The Fortera Foundation is donating enough ReAct low-carbon cement for 250 yards of concrete for the Maurice and Marianne Johannessen Veteran Success Center (VSC). ReAct will be used in the new building’s slab and footings, reducing the center’s carbon footprint. The VSC will provide crucial resources to veterans as they transition from military service to student and civilian life. The VSC will also be home to STEM program facilities, including new engineering and technology labs. Fortera CEO Ryan Gilliam said, “Simpon University is a tremendous asset for Northern California and Southern Oregon, bringing important resources to historically underserved communities. As Redding is also home to Fortera’s first green cement manufacturing facility, we are honored to play a part in supporting education, veteran success, and sustainable infrastructure in our own community.” As part of a Giving Tuesday campaign, Simpon University is kicking off the final phase of fundraising to bring in the remaining $1.5M needed to complete the VSC. To make a contribution to the effort, visit simpsonu.edu/givingtuesday.
