💲 I got $20k of funding for my climate change education idea and here's how you can too! A year ago, I submitted my application to the #Youth4Climate Call for Solutions! After flying to Italy to pitch in person and meet fellow shortlisted participants, I got the grant! My project, Green Economy Ready, aims to create a toolkit that will help career advisers integrate green jobs into the career guidance program for Senior High School students in the Philippines. Coincidentally, this is my Re-Entry Action Plan as an Australia Awards scholar and I can't wait to fully implement it upon my graduation in the next few months. For this year's grant, they are accepting applications for youth-led solutions in the following areas:  👩🏫 Climate and Environmental Literacy 🔆 Sustainable Energy 🥕 Food and Agriculture 🌊 Nature Assets ♻ Sustainable Consumption and Production Good news though because they raised the funding to $30k! ✨ Here are my top tips for anyone interested in participating: 1️⃣ Identify a problem faced by a group of people You need to be super specific with the problem you're trying to solve and the participants you're involving. Let me share my favorite lesson from my behavior change professor: "If you're targeting everyone, you're targeting no one." In my case, my specific problem is the lack of awareness of green job opportunities and my specific group of people is high school students and their career guidance providers (teachers and guidance counselors).    2️⃣ Know your country's Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs)  You can't just choose a very specific problem for a group of people that is not relevant to the climate agenda of your country. Show your understanding of the problem by connecting it to a national policy or other studies. The grant is there to jumpstart a small ripple of change that will contribute to the greater scope. If you're unsure where to find that, I'll put in the comment where to look for your country's NDC. If your country does not have an NDC, you can still apply! 3️⃣ Provide direct answers For this call, you don't have to submit a concept note or a project proposal.  You have to explain your project by answering the guide questions in each section. Read through the evaluation criteria to make sure that your answers have shown how you fit the evaluation criteria. It's like writing your assessments, you may display a good understanding of the material BUT you may not be hitting the marks. 🔥 EXTRA TIP  The Youth4Climate Team is very supportive of young people so they make sure to provide different avenues to increase capacity to apply. In today’s session, I had the opportunity to dive deep into discussions about effective networking strategies and the importance of recognizing pivotal opportunities in career development. Here are two key takeaways that resonated with me: 1. Quality Over Quantity in Networking: I learned that effective networking goes beyond collecting contacts. It’s about building genuine relationships with professionals who align with your goals. By focusing on mutual benefits, consistent communication, and personalized interactions, we can create a strong support system that propels us forward in our careers. 2. Identifying Pivotal Opportunities: It’s crucial to distinguish between standard and pivotal opportunities. While standard opportunities contribute to personal growth, pivotal ones have the potential to significantly advance our careers, even if they don’t align perfectly with our short-term goals. By seizing these opportunities and stepping out of our comfort zones, we can accelerate our professional growth and make meaningful contributions to the climate and energy sector.
