Financial support from Elia’s #communityfund has gone towards the organisation’s micro-food preservation truck, which Le Fagotin uses to teach people about sustainable food production🍓🥒🥔. With support from Elia’s #communityfund, Le Fagotin asbl has been able to expand its sustainable teaching activities in Wallonia. 🌳Non-profit Be Planet manages Elia’s community fund, which was set up to support citizen projects in areas which have been impacted by our grid infrastructure projects. 🌿 Partnering for Impact 🌍 Exciting news! We've recently completed a project with Mirvac, successfully diverting over 8,500 items from the former Western Sydney University Milperra campus, which spans a vast 20 hectares. This initiative has effectively prevented significant landfill waste. These items now contribute to the community by supporting a number of amazing organisations, including ReLove, GIVIT.org.au, Boys to the Bush At Project Net Zero, we offer sustainable solutions at scale. Our expertise in diverting materials supports CSR goals: - Reduce environmental impact: Divert significant materials from landfills. - Promote circular economy: Rehome reusable items. - Support communities: Back local schools and charities. - Enhance sustainability: Strengthen CSR profiles. I just read about MycoHAB and MycoHAB Namibia in particular — a foundation using mycelium technology, that is, growing a specific type of mushroom, to (a) help with food security (more than one third of the Namibian population do not have reliable access to sufficient food) (b) create local jobs (c) use the leftover substrate from the cultivation process as building material (myco blocks) for houses that are better protected from heat and fire than most of the current shacks (d) bind carbon dioxide (instead of producing CO2!) through the myco block production process. These are the kind of initiatives I’d love to read more about. Sounds genius to me. What do you think? On Sunday, our team had the privilege of volunteering at two incredible organizations: 🌱 Leket Israel: We helped sort fresh produce donated by farmers, destined for destruction. Instead of waste, the good food will now reach those in need, while the less suitable produce will be repurposed into compost for sustainable agriculture. 💪 Wheels of Kindness: We stepped into a world of innovation and care, assisting in the repair and customization of wheelchairs tailored perfectly to their recipients' needs. This organization has become a pillar of support, especially during challenging times, providing vital assistance to thousands of injured individuals where government resources fell short. It was truly inspiring to witness the dedication and impact of volunteers—some of whom rely on wheelchairs themselves—working tirelessly to create change.
