For patients in memory care and hospice, receiving flowers is more than a gift; its a visual moment of love and connection. I recently sat down with Karen Wooldridge, co-founder of Bluebirds & Blooms, to learn about their inspiring mission to deliver repurposed flowers to seniors facing memory loss and long-term illness. Big news today. Joeli's written more on their website, in Grazia, and will be doing Woman's Hour, Guardian et al over the next few days, so without being cryptic or teasing, just a couple of additional thoughts..: 1. What Joeli has done to build PTS is often given plaudits on social media, and sometimes outside. It's been a force of nature for a decade now, changed laws, held politician's feet to the fire, secured investment, called out corporations, all the while supporting thousands of people, for free. 2. Unfashionable to say, but there's such a power to GRAFT, and to ACTION beyond just commentary or speech. Joeli's testament to that. 3. Charities / campaigning / activism / the arts all share how precarious and fragile they are - they require herculean stability at the centre, patience and absolutely unwavering drive and vision. Again m'lud, I present my inspirational partner, Joeli. 4. Following on from the above, it feels more important than ever that the left / people fighting the good fight need to SUPPORT each other. It's not always easy under pressure from all sides, and sometimes feels easier to look to the left and the right and withdraw, criticise, and compete - but we HAVE to support to succeed. 5. She's on Woman's Hour early next week and said "it might be the last time I get asked on, so I'd really like to do it". Promptly put £1,000 on it not being the last time she gets asked on.... Easy money. Love you Joeli. x
After almost 10 years, I have taken the difficult decision to step down as CEO of Pregnant Then Screwed I built this organisation with my bare hands, & I have loved it like a third child. It has been the honour of my life to be its founder, and to have grown it from a blog to a hugely successful charity that has helped hundreds of thousands of mothers, changed laws, won awards, and given families hope for the future. But sometimes when you love something you have to set it free. I will remain in my role until end of Feb 2025. I will also be taking on a new role as PTS ambassador & I will always be the founder. As for what’s next - I’m not entirely sure yet. I’m starting a podcast with my friend Elliott Rae on raising boys & masculinity, and I’m keen to do lots more speaking gigs on the motherhood penalty, as well as other projects, so get in touch if that interests you. My new website is here: joelibrearley.com For now, thank you to everyone who has been part of this movement. For your kindness, strength & support - it has meant the absolute world to me ❤️
