So, here we are, the end of another year sneaking up on us! A lot of us are rushing around, tackling those last-minute holiday chores and trying to crush our work goals. Before we even realize, a fresh new year will be rolling in, and we’ll be back on that familiar grind. One thing that really helps me kick off the new year is taking a little time to look back on the past twelve months. I’ve learned that if I skip this step, I’ll just end up dragging the same old issues and hiccups into the next year. If you're curious, check out my latest post for some cool ways to celebrate what you’ve achieved and set yourself up for a fantastic new year. Plus, I’ve got a free Year-End Review worksheet to help you kick things off right. The overwhelming optimism of the New Year is too much to handle. So much so that I feel there’s an intense pressure to leave the bad and embrace the good as soon as you enter the year. And if you don’t, it turns into self-disappointment and guilt in no time. I have literally been there so many times; it sucks. That’s why, this time, I’m doing something different. Instead of entering this New Year with full force, I’m entering with gentleness and a little planning. Meaning, I’m not working on my resolutions from Jan 1st, but I am starting now — a little early. Writing on LinkedIn is one very important habit I want to restart in 2025. Instead of doing that from Jan 1st, I’m starting now. It’ll (hopefully) help in 2 ways: 1. December is comparatively relaxed workwise. This free time will make it easy to integrate this new habit = reduced overwhelm. 2. If I start right now, that habit will be firmly established in my routine by the time it’s mid-Jan. Honestly, I don’t know how this will turn out. But I’m excited and (moderately) optimistic to see this in action. What’s your relation with New Year resolutions?

✨ Not into New Year’s resolutions? Same here! ✨ Let’s be real—traditional New Year Resolutions like “lose 20 pounds” or “read 80 books” can feel super overwhelming. That’s why I don’t make resolutions and focus on the process instead. It’s all about enjoying the journey, not just obsessing over the results. In my latest post, I share why process-oriented resolutions (like “explore a fun physical activity” or “read two pages a day”) work so much better for people like me—and maybe for you too! If you’re curious about a more laid-back, flexible way to approach the new year, come check it out. Plus, I included a simple habit tracker to help you get started. Let’s celebrate the small wins together this year! 🎉 👉 Check it out: https://lnkd.in/eGPd6rfx #ProgressNotPerfection #SmallWins #ProcessOriented #SomniaMagna #DreamBig #BlackOwnedBusiness

The year’s almost over, so it’s time for that moment: taking stock of everything you’ve achieved. But how do you reflect on a year’s worth of work? Of wins, and losses? What’s your method for celebrating the highs, surviving the lows, and appreciating the ride? Is it… 👏 The LinkedIn humblebrag round-up. You pull together stats, big wins, and standout projects, wrap them in a neat bow, and drop them in a post. “2024 – we did that!” ❤ The team kudos session. You gather the crew, crack open the snacks (and maybe the bubbly), and spend time sharing shoutouts and stories of the year’s best moments. 💡 The journal and reflection method. You dig into what worked, what didn’t, and where you grew. (Bonus points for any inspirational quotes and highlighter colours involved.) 😆 The scroll back through your calendar and cry-laugh. You see how wildly overbooked you were all year and realise, honestly, you’re a miracle worker for making it through. No matter the method, take a moment to appreciate the journey. Drop your reaction below and share how you like to wrap up the year! I don’t believe in New Year’s resolutions. I don’t think it’s particularly helpful or fun to resolve to do something. Where is the inspiration in that? Resolutions have become about as appealing as hammering your finger. I do believe, however, in new year’s intentions. I believe the new year is a good time to seek out some quiet and spend time reflecting, taking stock, and dreaming. In the rush of the year it can be hard to reach those inflection points and really ask ourselves: -How do I feel about what I have done this year? -Do I enjoy what I am doing? -Are there new things I want to explore? -Are there projects/relationships/patterns I am ready to let go of? -What does my ideal life look like, and what steps can I take this year to align with it? I have been doing a lot of reflecting over the last couple of weeks, as projects have finished and new projects have launched and I have some space to write, plan, rest, walk, catch up with people, and clean out my backlog of emails (unsubscribing never felt so good!). It’s the kind of reflection I think is best done offline. Its dividends will pay out over time and not overnight. I share a photo from one of those contemplative walks, of Mount Rainer from my hometown. What are your thoughts on New Year's intentions? Are they working for you? The other NYE tradition I swear by is diving into the Pacific Ocean - or any other other body of water - not for the faint of heart but absolutely inspiring!
