The growing influence of #EdTech in shaping global education systems often brings with it assumptions that prioritise rational, individualistic, and secular ways of learning, marginalising more diverse perspectives. We must recognise these biases and work towards decolonising and desecularising EdTech to ensure it serves all learners. A new framework by Dr Taskeen Adam aims to help policymakers, educators, and EdTech developers identify and address material, epistemic, and political injustices in their work. By challenging the prevailing narratives, we create more inclusive, just educational systems that honour diverse ways of knowing and being. 🌍 Decolonising and Desecularising EdTech for Justice 📚 This recent article by Dr Taskeen Adam introduces a justice-oriented framework for decolonising and desecularising the field of Educational Technology (#EdTech). With the rapid adoption of technology in education, this piece challenges the underlying logics of EdTech that marginalise non-Western ways of being and knowing. The framework Taskeen proposes—covering material, ontological, and geopolitical injustices—offers policymakers, educators, and tech developers a crucial tool to rethink the role of EdTech through a decolonial lens. This is a vital step toward addressing digital neocolonialism and ensuring equitable educational outcomes globally. A must-read for anyone in education and tech looking to foster inclusivity and justice in learning environments.

In our latest partnership post with Alliance for Learning Innovation (ALI), co-founder Margo Roen calls on education leaders and entrepreneurs to demystify and democratize education R&D. She states: "The language of innovation inadvertently leads to gatekeeping: students, families, the community, and teachers with new ideas may not realize that their creativity, agility, and problem-solving 𝒊𝒔 innovation." Unleashing the creative genius and expertise of parents, students, and educators in schools across the country is key to unlocking 🔐effective, equitable public education for all students. The Unsung Heroes: Redefining Teachers There are people who make good impressions in your life, and then there are those who completely change your life. For the most part, teachers fall into the second category. They aren't always appreciated at their true value because we often take the service they render for granted. But there are #teachers, and there are teachers. Not all teachers are traditional educators; the best teachers are those who change the world through their contributions, showing the way to others without ever setting foot in a #classroom. These unsung heroes are all over the world and should be encouraged for the wonderful work they do. Their lessons are simple: they teach what they do. Whether through industrious cleaning, becoming top entrepreneurs, or leading as CEOs, their impact is undeniable. Even though most of them will never acknowledge being qualified teachers, the service they provide couldn't be replicated by our traditional #school systems. Governments across the globe cry out for the shortage of teachers, but they are overlooking this very special category of educators. They probably wouldn't cost as much, and if any #government were courageous enough to seek their service, they would be happy to assist because that is what they do anyway. If we are to survive the wave of AI, we need to revisit our definition of teachers. We need educators who are willing and able to transfer and transmit skills that are aligned with the marketplace. This is just the beginning!

In this amazing episode of The Teacher Story Podcast, Jackie Scully, M.Ed is joined by John Rainford FRSA FTLS, Chief Innovation Officer of Human Health Education and Research Foundation, to discuss systems thinking & pathways to systemic change in Education. I am a big fan of John's work, and we are working on a worldwide Sustainability/AI Literacy project with AIxPBL designed to teach 7-17-year-olds systemic thinking and entrepreneurial approaches. The hope is that this initiative will guide AI Literacy in reforming educational systems, fostering innovation, and creating frameworks that support systemic and transformative change. We have already drafted a plan and connected with some great schools in Mexico, the USA, and Australia. Here are some key takeaways from the podcast: -Systems thinking is a way of thinking about the world in terms of interconnected parts. -Change is difficult because people get scared and stuck in old ways of thinking, but adapting to an uncertain, evolving world is necessary. -When you mention change people get scared about the whole concept of change and yet it's because they can be stuck in linear thinking ways -There are processes that we can use with s thinking that can help change happen because it's driven top down bottom up not forced in any way -Building trusting relationships is key to learning and happiness. Schools should focus more on this. -In education, systems thinking can help us to see how all the different parts of the system are interconnected. -By thinking systemically, we can better understand the root causes of problems/challenges in education and develop more effective strategies for addressing them. I encourage you to watch the video/listen to the podcast, follow John Rainford FRSA FTLS and learn more about systems thinking in education and beyond. Technology holds immense potential to transform education, but are we using it effectively? We at WFE believe that clear minimum quality standards are essential for EdTech to truly deliver on its promise. We need a multidimensional EdTech Impact Index. This index should consider five key areas: ▶️ Efficacy: Does it work in controlled settings? ▶️ Effectiveness: Does it translate to real-world classrooms? ▶️ Ethics: Does it prioritise data security and responsible use? ▶️ Equity: Does it benefit everyone, including underserved groups? ▶️ Environment: Does it consider its impact on the local and global environment? So, how do we achieve this? ▶️ Collaboration: Academia, industry, regulators, and investors must work together to establish clear accountability mechanisms. ▶️ Data Infrastructure: We need robust systems to collect and analyse data on EdTech impact. ▶️ Impactful Development: By prioritising impact metrics, the EdTech sector can move beyond minimum standards and create transformative solutions. Under the aegis of B.E.S.T Innovation University, India’s first Innovation University.
