We are coming up on a decade since Institute for the Future's "Learning is Earning 2026," a collective, cross-sector exercise to develop a forecast that tied together advances in tech, education, and assessment conducted in 2016. What from this exercise feels prophetic? What big shifts, challenges, and advances were missed? What feels off or unrealized from their "The Ledger" example today? This IFTF example is a powerful reminder of the importance of strategic foresight. When we look ahead, we can think about what is possible in the future and gives us agency to shape that future through the actions we take today. #strategicforesight #futures #lookahead #learntoearn https://lnkd.in/eG5CMrgE

We appreciate how the Alliance for Learning Innovation (ALI), and our fellow ALI member organizations, continue to lead through rapid change with clarity and focus. In Sara Schapiro's new Forbes piece, she continues the call to invest in education R&D and looks to the future of the field. She outlines three pillars that can form the basis for updating federal education R&D infrastructure: 🏫 Support state and local education leaders and educators to know and implement what works in education; 🔍 Invest in world-class data systems to promote transparency and evidence-based decision-making in school districts across the country; and 💡 Facilitate breakthroughs in education innovation to help the U.S. retain its competitive edge. Five years ago this week most school systems were shutting down for what turned into a much longer-than-expected COVID disruption. Today, there are new forms of uncertainty and disruption in public education we didn't see looming while deep in the 2020 crisis response. Still, most school districts and state agencies have 3-5 year strategic plans that guide their work, which provide a short enough time-frame to work in the current moment but is prone to missing the broader context of the evolving world around the school system. We must look out further on the horizon to inform strategy. At Imagine Network, we believe strategic foresight is a critical skill to develop in education leaders to both better predict what is ahead and prepare for it. In developing these foresight skills, leaders are able to make choices today that put their schools, educators, and students on a path of possibility aligned with future opportunities and informed by the potential challenges ahead. Leading through drastic change is hard, and we are so grateful for the school systems leaders across the country joining this network and creating space to look ahead together. #strategicforesight #strategy #k12education https://lnkd.in/gwA7QhDr

It was so uplifting to hear from the 5 Learning Landscape Challenge winners and the exciting ways they are building multifaceted infrastructure—physical, digital, and social—through innovative solutions rooted in student and community needs. Co-founders Margo Roen and Shannon Murtagh served as reviewers for the grant challenge and were struck by the incredible range of new ideas from across the country. Kudos to the winners! "Education R&D is not just a vital function of the federal government—it is an investment in schools and communities across the country. By supporting researchers who explore what works for students and in what contexts, the federal government empowers local and state leaders with the data they need to make informed, student-centered decisions. This approach honors local control while ensuring education policies and approaches are grounded in evidence-based practices." - Sara Schapiro, CEO of Alliance for Learning Innovation (ALI) #k12education #innovation #edudata https://lnkd.in/eb_W9pCW

Open conversation and collaboration are critical to identifying and effectively utilizing the AI tools that can transform teaching and student learning. Together with the Learning Engineering Virtual Institute, we brought together tool designers and district innovation and strategy leaders to discuss how to implement AI innovations in school systems while also maintaining the right balance of agency and oversight. Here's what we heard. #AIadoption #K12education
