⭐ Happy Allied Health Professions Day! ⭐ EMF proudly celebrates the vital contributions of our allied health professionals! We are highlighting an EMF funded grant, led by Emergency Physiotherapy Practitioner (EPP) Laura Hayes at Redland Hospital, Metro South Health, that is focused on the innovative use of Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS) for quicker diagnosis of ankle syndesmosis injuries. These injuries are common, yet often missed in the emergency department, leading to delays in treatment and poor patient outcomes. This study proposes a new pathway that uses POCUS performed by trained EPPs to identify key indicators of these injuries and compare the accuracy of these findings with traditional radiology ultrasound. This innovative approach has the potential to lead to earlier diagnosis and significantly improved outcomes for patients with these injuries. Let’s continue to support our allied health professionals in enhancing patient care! 𝐀𝐎𝐏 𝐎𝐮𝐭𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬 𝐊𝐞𝐲 𝐏𝐫𝐢𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐍𝐞𝐱𝐭 𝐆𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐀𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐆𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐄𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 🗳️With the UK general election looming on July 4th, the Association of Optometrists (AOP) has outlined three critical priorities for the incoming government to address in the realm of eye care. 🥇Firstly, the AOP proposes expanding community eye care services, advocating for enhancements such as glaucoma monitoring schemes, Minor Eye Care Services, and Community Urgent Eye Services. These initiatives aim to improve accessibility and timeliness of eye care across communities. 🥈Secondly, the association calls for an update to the ‘entry level exemptions’ list of medications, which has remained unchanged since 2005. This update would expand the prescribing powers of optometrists, enabling them to provide more comprehensive care. 🥉Lastly, the AOP stresses the need for investment in IT infrastructure that supports large-file image sharing and real-time communication between primary and secondary care clinicians. This technological upgrade is seen as pivotal for enhancing collaboration and efficiency in eye care services. As the election approaches, these priorities highlight crucial areas where policy changes can make a meaningful impact on the healthcare landscape.
