If millions of smallholder farmers are empowered by accessible and relevant technology, we will see the following trends: 🌀 sustainable practices increase yields 🌀 the economies of these communities will be strengthened 🌀 more capital flows to these farmers Aqua-Spark strives to increase smallholder profitability by increasing access to sustainable practices and technologies. Smallholders play a critical role in the food system, and in the future will trend toward a more specific role in the supply chain (e.g. nursing fish) or be serviced by digital marketplaces that leverage smallholders’ sheer numbers enabling increased access quality inputs and access to markets at scale. Our 2023 Impact Report highlights each of our Aqua-Spark Outcomes, including this one. Read it here: https://lnkd.in/gawdcakg #Aquaculture #Impact #Sustainability

🌱🌍 Local agriculture holds the key to a cleaner, greener tomorrow. By shortening supply chains, we can drastically cut emissions and reduce the environmental impact of transporting goods across the globe. Moreover, leveraging local agricultural by-products turns leftovers into value, supporting circular economies. This approach not only strengthens regional economies but also enhances food security. At Ÿnsect, we’re committed to transforming these principles into action. Our farms harness the potential of insects to create sustainable protein solutions as well as fertilizer that are both environmentally friendly and locally driven. Insect farming isn’t just about sustainability—it’s a driver of economic growth. Our facilities spark innovation and diversify regional economies. By meeting the rising demand for sustainable proteins, we’re not only addressing a critical global challenge but also building a more resilient and equitable economic framework. At Ÿnsect, we believe that local solutions can have a global impact. Together, we can create a sustainable future—one farm, one community, and one innovative idea at a time. 👉 Let’s reimagine food systems for a better tomorrow. 🚜“A breakthrough model of financing and collaboration supporting farmers can speed up the transition to sustainable food production”…🍀 This is the exciting insight from the report “100 Million Farmers: Breakthrough Models for Financing a Sustainability Transition” that highlights the pivotal role of innovative financing in transforming agricultural practices for a sustainable future. As we face the challenges of climate change and food security, it’s crucial to empower farmers with the resources they need to adopt sustainable methods. The report outlines groundbreaking models that can mobilize financing, support smallholder farmers, and drive the transition towards more resilient agricultural systems. Food and Agriculture account for 30% of global greenhouse gas emissions, but receives less than 4% of overall climate finance!!! This paradigm needs to be changed, and this report points the way to do it… Key takeaways include: - The importance of scalable financial solutions that will overcome the existing barriers to faster adoption by farmers. - Collaborative approaches that involve public and private sectors to create lasting impact. - Success stories demonstrating the power of community-driven initiatives. Lending and insurance with more favorable terms for sustainable farmers, upfront payments or guarantees that offset cash decreases in early stages of implementation, full monetization of ecosystem services, catalytic and concessional investment to support sustainable farming projects are some of the tools that need to be implemented and embraced by all stakeholders (value chain participants, financing players, policy-makers, etc). #SustainableAgriculture #Financing #Farmers #ClimateChange #FoodSecurity #Innovation

The lack of transparency in agricultural algorithms affects the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) and SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities). For SDG 12: - Transparent algorithms help farmers make informed decisions, preventing resource waste and environmental harm. - They ensure traceability and accountability in food production, promoting sustainable practices. For SDG 10: - Transparent, open-source algorithms provide equitable access to technology for smallholder and marginalized farmers, reducing inequalities. - Opaque algorithms can reinforce power imbalances, favoring large agribusinesses and exacerbating economic disparities in agriculture. Finding the right balance between transparency and the protection of business integrity is challenging. While transparency is essential for sustainable practices and equity, businesses must also safeguard their proprietary information to maintain competitive advantages. BALANCE is the key aspect. #SustainableAgriculture #AgriTech #Transparency #SDGs #ResponsibleConsumption #ReduceInequalities #OpenSource #AgriInnovation #FarmersFirst #TechEquity

As sustainability becomes increasingly essential across various sectors, it is imperative for farm cooperative managers to ensure their operations align with environmental and social governance (ESG) principles. This alignment, necessitated by regulatory demands and consumer preferences for sustainable products, is reshaping the agricultural retail landscape. The push towards #sustainable practices stems from an understanding that the long-term success of #agriculture hinges on maintaining the health of the land. Leading companies like PepsiCo and Walmart have initiated significant efforts to boost agricultural sustainability, focusing on improving soil health and water quality in North America. These efforts help lessen the environmental impact of farming and also increase the appeal and profitability of agricultural products by enhancing crop yield and quality. In addition, capital markets are increasingly looking to invest in farms and farmland that shows promise in its ability to enhance productivity, increase resilience, and be net positive for the planet. In this Purdue DIAL Ventures article, my colleague Dr. Allan Gray lists 7 strategic positioning moves for farm cooperatives to consider. https://lnkd.in/gVtZFWFf

FoodChain ID - Paving the Way for a Sustainable Agri-Food Supply System! ♻️🌏 In our recently published Year-in-Review magazine, FoodChain ID highlights the growing urgency for #sustainability in the agri-food supply chain. With rising global regulatory demands like the EU’s CSRD and CSDD, businesses now face the need to report both financial and environmental performance; a shift that will soon impact credit ratings and funding access. FoodChain ID plays a critical role in supporting farmers, particularly in #Africa, including #Nigeria, to adopt regenerative agriculture practices. By enabling farmers to generate carbon credits through carbon avoidance and removal, they help unlock new revenue streams while improving food security, boosting yields, and enhancing climate resilience. As companies strive to meet net-zero targets by 2030, tackling Scope 3 emissions which account for over 75% of total carbon footprints remains a top priority. FoodChain ID provides a clear path for farmers to achieve sustainability goals through regenerative agriculture certification and innovative practices. 💫For more insights on this and other trends shaping agriculture, download our Year-in-Review magazine today! 👇👇👇 🔗 https://lnkd.in/dQjpRpB9 #Sustainability #AgriFoodSystems #CarbonCredits #RegenerativeAgriculture #FoodChainID #YearInReview #Farmers #EU European Union
