If you’re trying to be everything to everyone, you might be missing your big break. When I started in PR, I thought being a generalist was the key to getting more clients. More industries = more opportunities, right? Wrong. The real breakthrough came when I doubled down on niche industries. Tech. Healthcare. Fintech (that was me, personally). When you specialize, something magical happens: ✅ You become the go-to expert. ✅ Clients in your niche start seeking YOU out because you understand their challenges better than anyone else. It’s not about being a jack-of-all-trades. It’s about being the master of one. So, how do you find your niche? 1️⃣ Start with industries you’re passionate about. 2️⃣ Think about the sectors where you’ve already had success. 3️⃣ And don’t be afraid to go deep—niching down doesn’t limit opportunities; it expands them. Here’s the thing: Niche PR opportunities aren’t always easy to find. That’s why I built Remote PR Jobs We don’t just send you generic listings—we curate roles in specialized industries, so you can focus on the niches where you thrive. Want to see what’s out there? Comment "Niche" below, and I’ll send you a link to try it free. Your next big opportunity might be in the niche you haven’t tapped into yet. #PR #publicrelations

2 PR secrets small business owners constantly miss…… It boils down to 2 critical elements: 1. How to 𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁 𝗺𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗮 𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻. 2. The one action you’re not taking with journalists. Yet, you’re likely doing it every day for your business. You have something newsworthy to share! But, you have to frame it so that even a distracted reporter takes notice. Does that sound impossible? You have a unique opinion, you’ve earned a knowledge base & quantifiable results that illustrate what you do. 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗱𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁? Here’s an example: The end result of an HR consultant’s pitch efforts is a news story with this headline: "𝗔𝗿𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗲 𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗺𝘀 𝗠𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗢𝘂𝘁 𝗼𝗻 𝗩𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗶𝘁𝘆? 𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗲’𝘀 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗼 𝗙𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗢𝗻𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲." Who’s pitching this story?: A 𝘃𝗶𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝗱𝘆𝗻𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗰𝘀 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘁 who has a proven track record of helping companies keep creativity alive with innovative remote brainstorming techniques. 𝗣𝗶𝘁𝗰𝗵 𝗘𝘅𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲: “I’ve developed a process that led to a 𝟱𝟬% 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗮𝘀 within remote teams, helping companies achieve breakthroughs without the need for physical office space.” 𝗖𝘂𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗡𝗲𝘄𝘀 𝗔𝗻𝗴𝗹𝗲: Relates to ongoing conversations about the impact of remote work on team innovation and creativity. Something companies like Amazon, JP Morgan and Airbnb are struggling with right now. So how do you make this happen? 𝗜𝗻𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗽𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗽 𝟮 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗱𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘆 𝗿𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗲. No gripes, because this is something you’re likely already doing. When you reach out to prospects to generate new leads, do the same with reporters to establish contacts and build relationships. 𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗲’𝘀 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗼 𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗲𝗱: 𝗜𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗳𝘆 𝗠𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗮 𝗢𝘂𝘁𝗹𝗲𝘁𝘀. Review places where you’d like to be featured. Include newsletters, podcasts and trade publications. These are often stepping stones to bigger hits in traditional media outlets. 𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝗥𝗲𝗹𝗲𝘃𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗥𝗲𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀. Identify the journalists & writers who cover your industry & field of expertise. 𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗴𝗲 & 𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀. 👏🏼 Add them to your contacts, and learn where else they share content, hang out & respond to comments. That could be Twitter, YouTube, etc. 👍🏼 Write comments on their work. Share helpful resources you come across. Use the same networking techniques you apply to build sales relationships. When it is time to pitch a story, you’re not a total rando. 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗮𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗮 𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗱𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲. Got questions about how to get media coverage as a thought leader, author, expert or small business? Drop them in the comments below or send them my way………Let’s turn your expertise into headlines!

The evergreen question: how do people without business communication skills manage to work in communications? I’m helping a company find a PR specialist — someone to take charge of external CoMmUnIcAtIoNs with the outside world. Over the past few days, I’ve been reviewing applications, and here are some of the top responses from candidates: 😡 "I’m reaching out about the job." Uh, great. But the job posting clearly outlines what to send for your application to be considered. Would you write to a journalist saying, "I’m reaching out about an article," and expect them to do everything for you? 😡 "I’m an SMM/marketer/ecommerce manager." That’s nice. But we’re looking for a PR specialist............. Well, I’ll go to apply for a test engineer role... 😡 A voice message. That's the best. Someone with 10+ years of PR experience applies without a cover letter, nudges me to review their application faster, and then responds to rejection with a voice message questioning my qualifications to judge them. Takeaways: 🔹 Good news: if you’re a competent PR professional, it’s significantly easier to find a job. Just being able to write a decent cover letter increases your chances by 5x. 🔹 Bad news: as long as there are incompetent PR specialists, businesses will continue to get burned and become hesitant to work with good ones.
