The Civil/Structural Engineer position is responsible for researching, specifying, developing, designing, engineering, or testing components, equipment and/or systems in a multi-discipline engineering and design team. Individuals are expected to apply advanced knowledge of engineering principles, methods, and techniques to project assignments.
Responsibilities
Researches and analyses data such as client design proposals, specifications, and manuals to determine feasibility of design or application.
Works with clients to develop a project’s scope of work, estimates, and/or schedules.
Reviews and approves project drawings, standards, and specifications.
Develops major equipment and material selection, and construction specifications.
Uses computer assisted engineering and design software and equipment to perform engineering tasks.
Ensures that all assigned activities and operations comply with applicable codes, regulations, and laws.
Provides support during fabrication and installation phases to ensure engineering documents are followed.
Coordinates activities with other project disciplines involved in fabrication, operation, application, and installation or repair of various materials, products, or systems.
Provides technical direction, support and information to other engineers, designers, and drafters.
Consistently demonstrates professional skills in structuring assigned activities, creativity, teamwork, communications, operational efficiencies, handling of a client’s changing needs, decision making, and analyzing and solving problems.
Analyzes reports, maps, drawings, tests, and aerial photographs on soil composition, terrain, hydrological characteristics, and other topographical and geologic data to plan and design project.
Calculates cost and determines feasibility of project based on analysis of collected data.
Prepares or directs preparation and modification of reports, specifications, plans, construction schedules and designs for project.
Inspects construction site to monitor progress and ensure conformance to engineering plans, specifications, and construction and safety standards.
Uses computer assisted engineering and design software and equipment to prepare engineering and design documents.
More senior individuals will have engineering experience including arctic civil/structural design and application of IBC, AWS, ASCE, AISC and national fire codes.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in civil or structural engineering from an ABET-accredited institution required.
4 - 10 years of work experience, with oil and gas industry experience
Engineer in Training certificate (EIT) or passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam preferred. PE/SE license strongly desired
