Role Description:

The Controller will be responsible for leading and managing all financial aspects of the Firm. Additionally, the Controller will play a senior role in helping build and maintain core operational functions of the Firm. The Controller will be an active contributor to the overall Firm vision and execution. The Controller will report directly to the COO, collaborate in a leadership capacity with all functional heads of the Firm, and manage several direct reports.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Manage all aspects of general and GAAP accounting, as well as financial, regulatory, and management reporting for multiple entities.
  • Manage preparation of annual and quarterly filings with FINRA and SEC, including FOCUS report.
  • Develop and maintain annual budgeting and monthly forecast models with robust scenario analysis, as well as cash management strategies.
  • Develop and maintain accounting policies, processes and procedures for an efficient and effective close process.
  • Prepare technical accounting memos supporting accounting treatment of business transactions.
  • Lead process improvement efforts for all aspects of accounting and operations, including revenue recognition, consolidation, and account reconciliation.
  • Responsible for the implementation of various financial systems and process automations.
  • Oversee the annual audit process and tax preparation with the external accountants.
  • Work directly with regulators to provide timely responses to inquiries.
  • Oversee the transaction close-out process, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and payroll processes.
  • Scope, build and execute accounting software integration across the firm. 
  • Work with firm leadership to strategically secure equity and debt financing as needed.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree 4-year program + CPA.
  • Minimum of 7 years of progressive professional responsibility and experience in relevant accounting and corporate finance in the financial services industry.
  • Prior experience in public accounting auditing financial services clients, particularly funds and/or broker dealers, strongly preferred.
  • Excellent Excel skills.
  • Ability to quickly learn advanced functionality of accounting software (Stonehaven uses Sage Intacct).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of accounting principles applicable to a FINRA registered broker dealer.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong leadership skills to communicate well, listen to feedback, solve problems, and work across a team to accomplish firmwide goals. 
  • Technological aptitude and desire to learn/apply new technologies/methodologies.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset, ability to hustle, and a do-whatever-it-takes mentality. 

 

Desired Qualifications:

  • Licensed FINRA Series 27 (required within 6 months of starting job). 
  • Prior exposure to funds viewed favorably.
  • Experience working with or for high growth companies.
  • Experience managing offshore teams.
  • Experience using Salesforce.

Commitment: Full-time working remotely. Periodic (e.g. quarterly) light travel may be required to attend Stonehaven community events.

 

Compensation: Competitive salary, bonus, 401k. Health, dental and vision benefits paid for by company. Monthly cell phone reimbursement and standard remote work technology package will be provided.

 

The salary range for this role is $110,000-$150,000. This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range, and the range may be modified in the future. This range is only applicable for jobs to be performed in New York City. An employee’s pay position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, shift, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics, any collective bargaining agreements, and business or organizational needs. This job is also eligible for a discretionary bonus.
