Pivot Energy is seeking a determined Owners Construction Manager to join the team. The Owners’ Construction Manager will be responsible for overseeing field EPC operations of corporate rooftop projects in Northern IL to verify construction status, progress, building means & methods, QA/QC, and safety compliance on a regular basis before, during, and after major construction activities on rooftop and carport sites with both Photovoltaic and Battery aspects. This will be a local position within the defined region (Chicago suburbs). The Owners Construction Manager will split their time between 2-5 active project sites at a time. They will be responsible for reviewing EPC progress reports and compare to actual production on-site. The Owners Construction Manager will help set Pivot up for success by helping to review and provide insight to the accuracy of EPC schedules, deliverables, and quality, making sure that projects close out on, minimizing late-term construction surprises.
Strong problem-solving abilities are a must to deal with inevitable discrepancies between EPC reports and actual site findings. A strong understanding of small utility-scale and commercial photovoltaic construction and order of operations is essential. This role will be required to interface directly with EPC build crews and field management. This role will best suit someone who is organized, self-managing, and comfortable with continual site oversight.

Primary Responsibilities
Experiences with rooftop construction building means & methods
Perform site visits from an Owners perspective to verify accuracy in EPC schedule reporting, progress, QA/QC, and Safety
Review EPC weekly & monthly status reports – opine for accuracy
Review drawings and specifications and have a thorough understanding of the scope of work
Review project execution plans, schedule, and safety plans
Review site photos to identify accuracy in construction schedule and progress reporting
Take site photos that will serve as historical records for projects and upload photos to Procore tools as applicable
Collaborate with the Project Engineering team to perform remote and on-site QA/QC inspections
Perform safety audits
Identify project constructability improvements and lessons learned
Host system outages with utility and EPC subcontractor
Oversee mobilization and/or major procurement deliveries to ensure on-time execution
Oversee challenging and/or risky scope activities that require additional Owner representation (e.g. site underground drilling and pile driving)
Monitor subcontractor construction progress regularly, reinforcing safety and quality with subcontractor and addressing any issues that arise during construction.
Interface with local neighbors to provide notice of upcoming activities or help resolve any concerns/complaints that arise during construction
Willing to travel up to 75%+ of the time depending on locality to construction sites
Required Competencies
4+ years of related solar ground mount, rooftop, and/or carport construction management experience
Minimum 4 years of professional experience required
Experience in the solar industry or comparable energy experience
Strong understanding of site diligence documents to ensure the EPC scope accurately captures the site constraints, including Geotech, ESAs, permits, interconnect agreements & land-use agreements
Driver's license, comfortability on roofs of varying degrees, ability to climb up ladders, comfortability working in or around electrical panelboards and switchgear
Ability to book and manage own travel to best support Owner’s obligations and budgets; Forecasting travel costs
Ability to clearly communicate complex technical or regulatory details with stakeholders
Ability to motivate and manage teams of highly effective individuals to achieve project objectives
Proven working experience in construction management and knowledge of construction means and methods
Strong understanding of relevant engineering aspects
Strong organization, leadership, negotiation, and delegation skills
Working knowledge of scheduling concepts such as CPM, Gantt charts, etc.
Working knowledge of spreadsheets, word processing, and scheduling software
OSHA 30 is required
Preferred Competencies
Solar project development exposure
Solar engineering exposure (PVsyst, Helioscope, etc.)
Utility Interconnection experience
NABCEP certification is preferred
OSHA 300 is a preferred
$70,000 - $100,000 a year
Compensation & Benefits
The base salary range for this position is $70,000 - $100,000 depending on relevant experience, along with eligibility for the company’s substantial bonus plan, with a target bonus of 30% of annual salary (prorated in the first year based on start date).
