About the Job

The Assistant Controller will support the Controller and senior finance leadership in overseeing the company’s accounting operations. This is a hands-on role with broad exposure to corporate and property-level accounting, treasury functions, and financial reporting for a complex real estate portfolio of over 300 assets and investment entities.


Key Responsibilities:

Accounting & Financial Oversight:

  • Review and approve journal entries, ensuring proper expense coding and classification
  • Oversee general ledger activity and month-end close processes
  • Manage foreign currency accounting and reporting for international investments
  • Reconcile payroll clearing accounts and intercompany balances


Treasury & Debt Management:

  • Assist with cash flow forecasting, fund transfers, and overall treasury operations
  • Monitor and track debt obligations, including loan expirations, payments, and covenants
  • Oversee intercompany lending activities and manage partner distributions
  • Maintain schedules for letters of credit and ensure timely renewals


Compliance, Process Improvement & Collaboration:

  • Ensure adherence to internal controls, company policies, and regulatory requirements
  • Partner with auditors, tax professionals, and external advisors as needed
  • Support system and GL setup for new assets and investment structures
  • Analyze balance sheet accounts and resolve bank reconciliation discrepancies
  • Monitor property tax assessments and coordinate with external consultants to manage appeals


Qualifications & Experience:

✔ Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance

✔ 5+ years of real estate accounting experience, preferably in a leadership capacity

✔ Background in managing complex real estate portfolios or investment structures

✔ Proficient in Excel and accounting systems (MRI, Sage preferable)

✔ Strong analytical and organizational skills with attention to detail

✔ Familiarity with real estate tax cycles, financing, and compliance requirements

✔ Ability to balance multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment

✔ Solutions-oriented with a mindset for process improvement
