What is behind this move of Volkswagen? Volkswagen will immediately invest $1 billion in Rivian through a note that will convert to stock on Dec. 1, subject to regulatory approvals. Volkswagen will also make a $1 billion payment at the inception of the JV, expected in the fourth quarter of this year. The German automaker will also invest $2 billion in Rivian stock - $1 billion each in 2025 and 2026 - subject to the startup hitting certain milestones, and provide a $1 billion loan in 2026. This investment will give Scout Motors Inc. (Volkswagen) an easy and cost effective head start to launch the brand on Rivian base. This is risk mitigation and synergy in one excellent move! Solid State Batteries - Significant contribution to energy transformation! Noboru Saito, the chief executive of TDK, said: “We believe that our newly developed material for solid-state batteries can make a significant contribution to the energy transformation of society.” The battery uses oxide-based solid ceramic electrolyte and lithium alloy anodes. Maintaining contact between the two is more of a challenge than with liquid electrolyte, and the battery must also be kept under pressure to function, representing a further technical challenge. Among major carmakers, Japanese manufacturers have been the most bullish in talking up the potential of solid-state batteries. It’s all about your data. If you want to harvest your data to grow your service business and use AI to take it to the next level of profitability you need to have your foundation right. If your data quality is garbage you can use all the sophisticated analytics in the world the output will be garbage. AI or HI (human intelligence) will not help. Always look at the foundation (quality of data, structure and reliability). This is a front end investment that needs the right mindset of leaders and team members. They need to enjoy working with data and have a data quality mindset. The C-suite needs to take care of this team (most probably introverts) and they need to support them over a long stretch because this will not be done in one day. This patience will pay off in many ways: Revenue and profit growth, customer satisfaction and retention, employee satisfaction and retention.
