After two days of constructive dialogue with policymakers in Brussels, one message stands out: the EU must act now to restore European competitiveness while delivering on its climate goals.   At Yara, we appreciate the European Commission's recognition of #fertilizers as a cornerstone of food security in the Vision for Agriculture and Food, as well as its commitment to supporting domestic production.    But recognition must now translate into concrete actions. Where to start ? 1. Boost market demand for lower carbon footprint fertilizers: policy incentives are urgently needed to drive uptake across the value chain and overcome implementation barriers. 2. Unlock the potential of digital farming: the upcoming Digital Strategy for Agriculture is a unique opportunity to scale up precision farming and nutrient management. 3. A real level playing field is just as critical. Tariffs on record-high Russian imports are a essential for the European industry to continue to invest in a low-carbon future. These steps will be key in making Europe more resilient and competitive. The time to deliver is now.

Fertilizers provide essential nutrients for crops to thrive, but balanced application is key to maximizing productivity while minimizing environmental impact. ⚖️ Enhancing nutrient use efficiency is a crucial strategy that optimizes both resource use and crop performance. At Yara, we combine agronomic expertise with innovative solutions to help #farmers improve nutrient use efficiency. Through precision farming tools and best management practices, we ensure #fertilizers are applied at the right time, in the right amount, and in the right place. The first bag of Yara's Renewable-based Lower Carbon fertilizer has landed on Danish soil! 🥳🇩🇰 Produced using renewable ammonia derived from electrolysis of water with renewable electricity or renewable natural gas, Renewable-based Lower Carbon fertilizers are a game-changer in sustainable farming. As part of Yara’s Climate Choice Fertilizers portfolio launched in 2024, they aim to significantly cut greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from the production of nitrate-based mineral fertilizers. "At Yara, we’ve long believed in the potential of fertilizers with a significantly reduced carbon footprint and now they’ve finally reached Danish fields. Together with Nordic Sugar Danmark, we are taking bold steps to integrate Renewable-based Lower Carbon fertilizers into Danish agriculture," explains Søren Fredslund, Business Development Manager at Yara International. This lower carbon footprint fertilizer has been delivered to a pilot project involving four selected farmers, who will use it to grow beets. 🧑🌾 We can't wait to see what’s next in paving the way for a more sustainable future in farming! 🚀

Nitrogen is a crucial nutrient for plant growth, but how efficiently crops use it can make a huge difference for both farmers and the environment. This is where Nitrogen Use Efficiency (NUE) comes in! But what is NUE? 🧐 It’s the ratio between the hashtag #nitrogen applied to the soil (through e.g., fertilizers and manure) and the amount actually absorbed by plants. The higher the NUE, the more effectively crops use nitrogen, leading to better productivity and fewer losses. The objective is that the plant takes up the optimum amount of nitrogen for a targeted yield. Focusing on NUE enables farmers to boost productivity while reducing environmental impact. Seeing is believing! I had the pleasure of visiting Yara Picanya in Spain, where I saw firsthand the impressive results achieved with YaraAmplix in both open-field and greenhouse crops.   What stood out the most? The enthusiastic feedback from Spanish farmers, who have already witnessed the impact of these #biostimulants on their crops: stronger resilience, better quality and, ultimately, a more robust farm economy. 🌱   Biostimulants are not just about improving yields: they can contribute to the goals of the European Commission's vision for the future of EU agriculture which ambitions to establish a fair, competitive, and sustainable food system that supports farmers and ensures food security. Local regulations and funding are also accelerating innovation in this space, helping us expand our YaraAmplix portfolio.   But innovation alone is not enough. It’s the farmers who make the real difference. Their trust and adoption of these solutions are what drive real change in agriculture.   I left Picanya inspired by the potential of biostimulants and the role they can play in shaping the future of farming. Today, the Alliance of Energy Intensive Industries (AEII) brought together industry leaders at the European Parliament, hosted by MEP Giorgio Gori, under the theme "How to address the competitiveness of energy-intensive industries in the EU?"   Our CEO and President Svein Tore Holsether, who represented Yara, Fertilizers Europe and Cefic, spotlighted three urgent calls from our industry:   📢 The pressing need to #decarbonize our production processes, involving downstream sectors, to ensure a sustainable and competitive future with a sound business case for all stakeholders in the value chains.   📢 A timely Implementation of the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (#CBAM) and the urgent need for a solution for exporters.   📢 The further development of "lead markets" for low-carbon products beyond just revising public and private procurement legislation. This initiative should address the need for demand creation for decarbonized products.   "The future of European industry lies in our ability to innovate and decarbonize, ensuring sustainability and competitiveness on a global scale."

While mineral fertilizers continue to provide food for a growing population, we need to improve how efficiently we use #nutrients to achieve higher yield while reducing environmental impact. ⚖️ Yara is continuously working with European #farmers to scale up the best nutrient management practices, which are already proven to work. This means applying #fertilizers precisely where and when they are needed, ensuring that nutrients, including nitrogen, potassium and phosphorus, reach the crops effectively. 🎯 To take this to the next level, we must expand soil testing and the use of decision-support tools, powered by precision farming and digital tools, across more farms. By making simple yet impactful changes, farmers can turn nutrient use efficiency into a tool for long-term #sustainability and profitability. 👨🌾

Yara's Women in Agronomy (WiA) program is making waves globally! 🤩 After being nominated as "Initiative of the Year" by Women in Food and Agriculture for its impactful work in advancing #genderequality, WiA has officially claimed the prize! 🏆✨ The judges praised its powerful mix of education, networking, visibility, and business skill development, highlighting that 75% of participants applied new skills in their roles. "By providing mentorship opportunities, safe discussions for DEI, and recognizing women’s expertise, we’re seeing real change – one that finally acknowledges their contributions in an industry that hasn’t always done so," says Program Manager Carolina Hernandez Lasso. The program – counting over 400 women worldwide, including many across Europe – was also shortlisted for the "Parity Award" for this year's World 50 Group Impact Awards for driving gender equality within Yara and beyond. EU leaders and Institutions must advance the Clean Industrial Deal 🚨 As competitiveness takes centre stage at this week’s Council of the European Union meeting (20–21 March), we urge EU leaders and Institutions to take bold, decisive actions to implement the Clean Industrial Deal.
