Emerging artists are facing myriad challenges right now, which can make it difficult to remember the joys of filmmaking. If you're feeling stuck, break through your creative block at WIF's first event in a series titled "Artists in Fellowship" on April 23. This public event centers the work of WIF Fellows, the magic of the moving image, and the perspectives of emerging and mid-career women and nonbinary creatives who are opening doors in the industry. #WIFFellows #WIFFellows2024 Sign up at https://loom.ly/zXrVNAs & share with a friend. With support from the L.A. Department of Cultural Affairs, WIF is excited to host FROM IDEA TO SCREEN, featuring works created by the alumni of the WIF Fellowship.

On what would have been Maya Angelou's 97th birthday (April 4), we're commemorating the occasion with an archival image of the civil rights activist, scholar, and prolific writer accepting the WIF Crystal Award in 1992, which recognized her trailblazing advocacy work that paved the way for cultural transformation and inspired generations. She left an indelible mark on the world and WIF is honored to be a part of her legacy. #TBT #advocate #trailblazer #poet #scholar #mayangelou #womeninfilm

Magazine “Diverse decision-making tables trickle down to inclusive hiring and content creation.” “This report is a call for the screen industries to continue investing in inclusion from executives to crew—the profit resulting from inclusive content creation is a win-win for everyone." Thank you Sarah Sicard for covering the report! Read the full article at https://lnkd.in/g-JDGe5q

Since an upswing between 2017 and 2019, progress for parity in feature films has stalled, according to the #ReFrame Report on Gender and Hiring in Film. Films with larger budgets are less inclusive, according to the report. Over the last three years, the proportion of films earning the stamp at the highest budget level ($100M or more) is about half that of the lowest budget level ($15M or less). Learn more about the 2024 ReFrame Report at Deadline Hollywood. Thank you, Dade Hayes, for covering the report! https://lnkd.in/gpdEV5UT
