  • Last week, the Wayne County Board of Commissioners held their annual Budget & Goals Retreat at The Maxwell Center, focusing on economic development, federal priorities, county facilities, recent accomplishments, and discussion of this year's Commissioner goals. We appreciate the staff of our federal elected officials and our economic development team for joining us and contributing to these important discussions. This retreat helps set the priorities for county leadership and staff to focus on for the next year.

  • Wayne County EMS and the Wayne County Sheriff's Office, NC have partnered to reduce cardiac arrest response times with County-funded AEDs in 20 patrol vehicles. This investment, combined with deputy training in AED use, CPR, and Stop the Bleed techniques, ensures faster lifesaving care when every second counts. When a 911 call comes in, dispatchers can now identify if a deputy is nearby and send them to provide aid before EMS arrives. “This partnership is another great example of the Wayne County public safety community’s dedication towards protecting its citizens and those who visit our county,” said EMS Director Dave Cuddeback. • Today, we honor the brave men and women—career and volunteer—who serve as 911 telecommunicators, law enforcement, EMS, firefighters, search and rescue teams, divers, and emergency management professionals. These heroes are not just responders—they're our family, neighbors, friends, and co-workers, always ready to protect us 24/7. Earlier this month, the Wayne County Board of Commissioners passed a proclamation naming October 28, 2024, as First Responders Day in Wayne County to recognize our first responders' dedication, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment to our community. Thank you for your service today and every day!
