🏛️ Montpelier Minute: Week 13 Recap Each week, Megan Sullivan, our VP of Government Affairs, provides an update on key developments at the Vermont State House. Here’s what happened last week, and a look at what’s ahead: ✔️ Economic pressure calls for policy restraint: In a joint hearing on tariffs, lawmakers acknowledged the real challenges facing Vermont businesses. The Chamber continues to urge legislators to avoid state-level policies—like increased fees, tax changes, and added regulations—that would further burden employers during this period of federal economic uncertainty. ✔️ Tourism economy spotlighted—and challenged: Over 100 business leaders joined us at the State House for Tourism Economy Day to celebrate a sector that generates $4 billion annually. But workforce shortages, housing challenges, and rising costs made it clear: Vermont must prioritize policies that promote growth over additional constraints. ✔️ What’s on our radar: We’re tracking legislation that could limit employer flexibility, increase transportation and operational costs, and impact critical sectors. The Chamber is advocating for practical, growth-focused solutions that support a resilient economy.

Thank you for being part of the day and for all you do to make Vermont more accessible, welcoming, and inspiring. 💚
Travel Economy Day in Vermont is always a special time to celebrate the travel and tourism industry and its importance to the economy. Half of Vermont Adaptive participants travel from all over to enjoy time away with family and friends making memories in the Green Mountain state. Director of Communications Kim Armstrong Jackson shared Vermont Adaptive stories (last photo) with the committees along with other business leaders from around the state. We continue to be so grateful for the opportunity to have a seat at the table. We appreciate this thoughtful reflection from Rigorous Technology and were grateful to have Diane Abruzzini Riggs join us for Vermont Manufacturing Day at the State House. Events like these highlight the innovation, collaboration, and shared commitment it takes to strengthen Vermont’s manufacturing sector—and ensure its continued success. Thank you to all who participated and to the manufacturers driving progress across our state.
Vermont can lead the next generation of sustainable and modern manufacturing – if we invest in it. On Wednesday, Rigorous Technology Co-Founder Diane Abruzzini Riggs had the opportunity to participate in Vermont Manufacturing Day at the Statehouse alongside manufacturers and legislators working to strengthen the future of our state's economy. Vermont is home to household names, like Cabot Creamery Cooperative and Ben & Jerry's. Other firms, like Hazelett Corporation and Chroma Technology Corp. are global leaders in their high-tech niches. Many Vermont manufacturers are national role models in sustainability and employee ownership, sharing best practices through organizations like Vermont Businesses for Social Responsibility (VBSR) and serving as national leaders in the B Corp (B Lab) and ESOP movements. But, today, we are in the middle of a workforce crisis, and Vermont is likely to be harder hit than our neighboring states. According to Deloitte, the US will have more than 2 million unfilled manufacturing jobs by 2030. With Vermont's aging population and housing crisis, this state is particularly vulnerable. Technology can be a bridge, but it's not a silver bullet. That's why events like Vermont Manufacturing Day matter. They give us a moment to listen, collaborate, and build a shared vision for what's possible. Thank you to the Vermont Chamber of Commerce for organizing and to the State of Vermont House Commerce and Senate Economic Development committees for your thoughtful engagement.
