What an inspiring day at the Northeast Business Group on Health's "Powering Up Women's Health" conference! We're proud to see Visana Health's Chief Medical Officer, Barbara Levy, MD, FACOG, FACS, quoted in a recent Medscape article discussing the critical shortage of OB/GYNs across the country. The article, "Why Some Ob/Gyns Are Walking Away," highlights concerning predictions that we could face a shortage of up to 22,000 OB/GYNs by 2050, with a significant gap of 3,000 women's health specialists emerging in just the next 5 years. Dr. Levy points to several factors contributing to this crisis: "I think it's a combination of burnout, retirement, and a feeling that the current practice environment feels hostile to women's health professionals," she explains. "When there's clear medical evidence to support care pathways and laws or regulations that prohibit optimal care for our patients, women's health practitioners face moral conflict, which is difficult to live with."
